The Prime Minister requested the People's Committee of Dong Nai province to implement the planning to develop Long Thanh city into an airport city. Long Thanh and Nhon Trach districts must be designed to become airport cities, promoting the ecosystem around the airport.
Proposal to build many subdivisions around the airport
Mr. Vo Tan Duc, Chairman of Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee, said that recently, Dong Nai province's planning has determined that the Long Thanh airport urban area includes Long Thanh district and part of Nhon Trach district.

For planning, Dong Nai develops according to the airport urban model that has been successfully applied in the world such as Dubai airport, Frankfurt (Germany), Changi (Singapore).
The province is divided into many functional zones and plans to include 5 development spaces in the vicinity of Long Thanh airport.
These are commercial service - financial - event organization spaces, international-class shopping complexes; cultural, sports, resort tourism spaces; educational research and training spaces; industrial logistics and logistics spaces; urban spaces for renovation, embellishment or planning of rural residential areas.

For Nhon Trach district, Dong Nai develops into an industrial - port service urban area, a regional tourism service urban area, a satellite urban area to counterbalance the center of Ho Chi Minh City.
Currently, the province is organizing the preparation of a master plan to adjust the general planning of the new urban area of Nhon Trach. It is expected to be submitted to the Ministry of Construction for appraisal and submitted to the Prime Minister in the first quarter of 2025.
To prepare for the airport city, the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee said it has assigned the Department of Construction to organize an international competition to find urban planning ideas for Long Thanh and surrounding areas.
From there, Dong Nai will choose a unit to organize the preparation of the Long Thanh urban master plan and zoning plan. The plan is expected to be approved in September 2025.
Goods entering and exiting highways, airports, seaports
According to Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee, Long Thanh urban planning must ensure the development of urban spaces and functional areas connected with traffic routes.
These are Ring Road 3, Ring Road 4, Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway, Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway, Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway and Long Thanh Airport.

In addition, in the southwest of the airport, Dong Nai plans to reserve about 9,000 hectares to develop a concentrated urban area.
In the south, establish industrial and logistics clusters with an area of over 4,600 hectares to link with the industrial - logistics service system of Cai Mep - Thi Vai seaport and Phuoc An seaport.
At the same time, develop an international exhibition, trade and entertainment service complex at the western gateway of the airport connecting the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway and the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway with a scale of about 2,300 hectares...
According to Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee, phase 1 of Long Thanh airport is expected to be put into operation in 2026.

Urgently carry out traffic projects connecting to the airport
The Government Office has just announced the conclusion of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at a meeting on the progress of the Long Thanh airport project, connecting infrastructure and planning, urban development of Long Thanh airport and surrounding areas.
In particular, the Prime Minister noted the need to handle existing problems and find solutions for the project to expand the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway section and directed to review and handle responsibilities of organizations and individuals with delayed implementation.
Regarding the traffic route connecting Tan Son Nhat airport with Long Thanh airport, the Prime Minister assigned the Minister of Transport to urgently study the traffic connection plan by railway or subway in the shortest, fastest, and most effective direction, and report to the Prime Minister in the first quarter of 2025.
Regarding the projects of the Ho Chi Minh City beltway and An Phu intersection: The People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai province, and Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) are responsible for quickly and urgently implementing and completing the routes, ensuring progress and quality for synchronous exploitation with Long Thanh airport immediately after being put into use.
