This policy gradually gained public trust, opening up opportunities for people to receive comprehensive and long-term healthcare, and reducing the financial burden of medical examinations and treatment.
With increasingly improved policies, health insurance aims to share the burden of hospital fees for patients, helping them feel secure in receiving medical care. It can be said that health insurance has demonstrated its superiority, becoming a "lifeline" for many families whose loved ones require long-term and expensive treatment. At the Hemodialysis Department of Ham Tan District Medical Center, more than 10 patients with kidney failure are undergoing dialysis each day, most of whom have health insurance cards. Thanks to this, they receive support in paying a large portion of their treatment and medication costs.
Having undergone dialysis for over 8 years, Mrs. Bui Thi Nguyen, residing in Suoi Kiet commune, Tanh Linh district, understands the difficulties of battling this disease. Putting aside her work, she regularly goes to the Ham Tan District Medical Center every week for dialysis. Her worries about treatment costs have eased somewhat because her family benefits from the health insurance scheme for the poor. Mrs. Nguyen said that for over 8 years, she has regularly undergone hemodialysis, so her health insurance card has become a very important companion.
Along with Mrs. Nguyen, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hai Yen, residing in Tan Phuc commune, Ham Tan district, who is undergoing dialysis treatment, said that she previously participated in health insurance to share the difficulties with those unfortunate enough to fall ill and also for self-protection. Only when she herself became ill and required long-term treatment did she fully understand the meaning and appreciate the value of her health insurance card. Dialysis three times a week, along with the long-term cost of medication, were major concerns when Mrs. Yen learned of her illness. However, now that her family benefits from the health insurance policy for the poor, she feels more secure knowing she has health insurance, and the health insurance fund has covered her treatment costs for over nine years.
The expanded health insurance policy, with its coverage of 80-100% of medical examination and treatment costs when patients go to designated facilities, has facilitated access to healthcare for many patients. At Ham Tan District Medical Center, 400-500 patients visit daily using their health insurance cards; the majority are chronic patients. Thanks to the health insurance policy, patients can afford monthly check-ups and receive adequate medication, improving their health and giving them peace of mind during treatment.
Dr. Huynh Van Tuong, Director of Ham Tan District Medical Center, said that participating in health insurance not only brings the right to healthcare for oneself but also shares with the community, with those who unfortunately suffer from illnesses requiring long-term and expensive treatment. With a health insurance card, people who are sick can go to medical facilities to be examined, undergo tests, receive diagnoses, and be prescribed medication promptly. Participating in health insurance protects the health of oneself and one's family, contributing to the goal of universal health insurance.
