Do earthquakes and air accidents affect Vietnamese people traveling to Japan?

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên04/01/2024

According to the latest report from the Japanese Cabinet Office, more than 150 strong earthquakes and one plane crash have caused significant damage to the country, especially around the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture.

One day after the natural disaster and unfortunate accident, Vietravel Company officially informed about the situation of tour routes departing to Japan in the early period of the new year. According to Vietravel, during the time of the earthquakes, the company had 500 customers visiting different cities in Japan, of which, about 20 customers were going to the ancient village of Shirakawago, Gifu province, about 350 km from Tokyo.

Vietnamese tourists safe in Japan on New Year's Eve

Most of the tourist groups had itineraries to visit major destinations such as Tokyo, Osaka, Kobe, Mount Fuji, Matsuyama, Nagoya, all located in the southeastern region of Japan, so they were not much affected or only felt slight aftershocks from the earthquakes. Vietravel ensures that tourists are still in a safe state, and their itineraries have not changed much due to natural disasters.

"Up to now, many Vietravel groups have finished their tours and returned to Vietnam. With more than 20 years of experience serving Vietnamese tourists in the Japanese market, we immediately worked with partners in Japan to promptly come up with response scenarios as well as prepare a calm mindset to best serve customers on tours. Faced with the above volatile situation, Vietravel has proactively introduced special policies for customers who buy Japanese tours departing in early 2024 and Lunar New Year. Specifically, Vietravel is ready to support tourists who buy Japanese tours to change their tour schedule to a more suitable time or can switch to tour routes in the Southeast Asian and Northeast Asian markets" - Vietravel representative informed.

Similarly, TSTtourist Company still records high demand from customers booking tours to Japan during cherry blossom season, with no signs of impact. Regarding the earthquake, receiving requests for other tours from the cherry blossom season onwards is normal. However, the company still closely follows the actual situation of the locality through official information updated from Japan. Up to now, the earthquake affected area has not directly affected most of the main tourist routes.

Other travel companies are also constantly updating information to promptly navigate and provide customers interested in Japan tours. Basically, the Japanese tour lines that are popular with Vietnamese customers often follow the central city route, not near the earthquake-hit locations, so they are not affected.

According to advice from American travel experts published in the latest article in Time Out magazine, tourists should not go to areas affected by the earthquake such as Niigata, Toyama, Ishikawa. These areas are considered unsafe. According to the UK Foreign Office website, the affected areas include the coastal areas of Ishikawa, Yamagata, Niigata, Toyama, Fukui, Hyogo, Hokkaido, Aomori, Akita, Kyoto, Tottori and Shimane, along with the Iki and Tsushima islands.

Experts are not advising against traveling to Tokyo and Osaka at this time. However, travelers should purchase travel insurance that covers issues such as trip cancellations due to natural disasters. If in an affected area, travelers should follow the instructions of local authorities and stay updated.
