On the afternoon of March 28, after many people in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City clearly felt the aftershocks from a 7.7-magnitude earthquake that had just occurred in central Myanmar, speaking with Dan Viet, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh, Director of the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center, Institute of Earth Sciences, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, said that the earthquake that occurred in Myanmar was very strong, so people in high-rise buildings in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City could easily feel it.
"The earthquake was so big that the range of impact was hundreds of kilometers, so even though it was far from the epicenter, the shaking could be felt in offices and high-rise buildings in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City," Mr. Xuan Anh explained, adding that the Institute is continuing to monitor.
According to Mr. Xuan Anh, with the 7.7 Richter earthquake in Myanmar, the current disaster risk level in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City is still level 0.
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred 16 km northwest of Sagaing city at a depth of 10 km at around 12:50 on March 28 (local time).
Meanwhile, the German Research Center for Earth Sciences (GFZ) said a 6.9 magnitude earthquake occurred in Myanmar. The epicenter was at a depth of 10 km near the city of Mandalay.
The earthquake in Myanmar also caused strong aftershocks in Thailand. Some subway and train services were suspended in Bangkok.
According to the Bangkok Post, residents of the capital Bangkok evacuated many buildings, while businesses announced temporary closures due to the earthquake. A high-rise building under construction in the Chatuchak district also collapsed due to the earthquake.

Returning to the aftershocks of the above earthquake, in Hanoi, at 1:20 p.m. this afternoon, many people living in high-rise buildings panicked at the shaking caused by the above earthquake.
Mr. Phan Anh Minh, a resident of Times City apartment building, Vinh Tuy ward, Hai Ba Trung district, said he felt like he had "vestibular disorders, low blood pressure, and a faster heartbeat".
On routes with many office highways such as Hai Ba Trung, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Le Duan at 2:00 p.m., many residents and office workers gathered on the sidewalk after the tremors occurred.
Ms. Tran Mai, who works on the 19th floor of the building on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street, said the shaking occurred at 1:30 p.m., causing tables, chairs, and computers to move for about 30 seconds. After that, the entire office rushed down the stairs.
"I was sitting working when I felt dizzy, then everyone screamed and ran to the ground," said Ms. Mai.
