According to the Institute of Geophysics, the earthquake occurred at 3:09 p.m., with the epicenter located in Muong Lai commune, Luc Yen district, bordering Bac Quang district, Ha Giang province.
People living in Muong Lai as well as many communes in Luc Yen district heard an underground explosion, the ground shook, and furniture shook for about 3 seconds. Many people ran out of their houses and looked around to see the effects.

The red star is the location of the epicenter.
In some communes of Ham Yen district (Tuyen Quang), or Bac Quang and Quang Binh districts (Ha Giang), people also clearly felt the tremors and explosions.
So far, no damage has been reported from the earthquake. The Institute of Geophysics also assessed the risk of natural disasters at level 0.

Previously on April 27, a magnitude 4 earthquake with a focal depth of about 10 km occurred in Yen Lam commune, Ham Yen district, Tuyen Quang province.
According to the Institute of Geophysics, the earthquake occurred between the Lo River and Chay River faults. The Lo River fault is over 650 km long, stretching from Bac Quang (Ha Giang) through Tuyen Quang. Many earthquakes of 4-4.9 magnitude occurred along the fault, with a maximum predicted of 5.1-5.5 magnitude.
