After the arrest, Mr. Cuong urgently reported to the local authorities and the Cu M'gar District Forest Protection Department. Upon inspection, the python was found to be 4m long and weighed 15kg.

Upon receiving the news, the forest rangers quickly arrived, received the python and the nest of eggs, and carried out the procedures to release them back into the wild.

The python that Mr. Nguyen Chi Cuong caught was a reticulated python (scientific name is Python reticulatus), classified in group IIB, an endangered and rare wild animal, listed in the Vietnam Red Book of Animals, strictly prohibited from exploitation and use.

Reticulated pythons live in sparse forests, near rivers and streams. They are excellent swimmers and are mainly active at night. Their diet includes mammals and birds, civets, mongooses, and primates.

In Vietnam, reticulated pythons are distributed in Da Nang, Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Binh Dinh... Currently, due to illegal hunting and habitat destruction, the number of this python species is seriously declining.
