The rescue forces of the Vietnam People's Army have performed their assigned tasks well. |
Sharing with reporters after the plane landed at Noi Bai International Airport, Major General Pham Van Ty, Head of the working delegation, said: “As soon as we arrived at Yangon airport, the delegation traveled by road more than 500km to the capital Naypyidaw, during the night and the next morning, we worked with relevant authorities of Myanmar to determine the search area, as well as coordination methods to ensure the most convenient and effective search work.
In Naypyidaw, the team deployed the search mission for victims at 3 locations: Bala Tidi Apartment Complex, Ottara Thiri Hospital and Aye Chan Thar Hotel. At these 3 locations, the team used sniffer dogs and specialized search equipment to detect 32 locations where victims were trapped under the rubble and directly organized searches at 20 locations, bringing out 21 victims' bodies.
In particular, the team coordinated with rescue forces to save the life of a 26-year-old man, which was appreciated by local people and rescue forces from the neighboring country. In addition, at these locations, the team also found many valuable assets and equipment worth hundreds of thousands of USD, which were then handed over to Ottara Thiri Hospital and the people.
“Despite some difficulties in geographical location that forced the team to move around a lot, and no electricity or phone signal in the working area, thanks to the effective support from the Embassy, the Vietnamese Defense Attaché Office in Myanmar, Mytel - a joint venture of the Military Industry - Telecommunications Group (Viettel) and the people of Myanmar, the Vietnam People's Army rescue force successfully completed the assigned task,” Major General Pham Van Ty expressed.
In addition to the rescue work, the delegation conducted humanitarian activities in the earthquake-affected areas, including supporting and handing over to Myanmar 40 tons of dry food and some tents (not including additional goods supported by the Ministry of National Defense); members of the delegation raised 5,000 USD to support the families of the victims; organized medical examinations and provided free medicine to more than 200 local people.
The efforts of the Vietnam People's Army's rescue force in Myanmar to carry out its mission with all its heart have been commended and highly appreciated by the leaders of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense. On April 3, General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, and Minister of National Defense , sent a letter of commendation to the delegation.
As planned, on April 9, the Ministry of National Defense will hold a ceremony to commend the Vietnam People's Army forces participating in the search and rescue and overcoming the consequences of the earthquake in Myanmar.
