Hoanh Mo Border Guard Station: Preventing smuggling from the border gateway

According to the assessment of the Hoanh Mo Border Guard Station, in the first months of 2025, the situation of smuggling and illegal transportation of goods on the border line managed by the unit has been basically controlled. However, from time to time, smuggling and illegal transportation of goods across the border still occur on a small and scattered scale; recently, illegal transportation of consumer goods, necessities, firecrackers, and illegal XNC has emerged. In particular, smugglers often change their methods of operation, do not follow the rules and do not fix the time, location and sophisticated tricks, causing difficulties for the anti-smuggling work of the functional forces.

Notably, at 9:15 p.m. on January 3, at landmark 1320/1(2)+300m (Na Po village, Hoanh Mo commune, Binh Lieu district), Hoanh Mo Border Guard Station presided over and coordinated with relevant functional forces to discover and arrest 3 subjects: Chiu Phuc Dau (born in 1986, residing in Na Po village, Hoanh Mo commune), Duong Phuc Senh (born in 2010) and Duong Cam Thong (born in 2010), both residing in Song Mooc village, Dong Van commune (Binh Lieu district), who were illegally transporting 54kg of foreign-made fireworks.

Through the investigation, Dau confessed that he hired Senh and Thong to take advantage of the darkness to illegally cross the border to China to buy and transport fireworks to Dau's house to hide, then sell them to those in need for profit. The case was investigated, verified, and the case was completed by the Hoanh Mo Border Guard Station for handling according to the law.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thanh Hoang, Political Commissar of Hoanh Mo Border Guard Station, said: To proactively prevent crime, Hoanh Mo Border Guard Station regularly innovates its methods of combating, deploys many professional measures; launches high-point campaigns to combat crimes in border areas; presides over and coordinates with functional forces to effectively combat and prevent all types of crimes, especially drug crimes, smuggling, and trade fraud, to prevent the emergence of hot spots and complications, and to create deterrence. Since the beginning of the year, the unit has organized 410 teams with over 1,800 officers and soldiers to patrol, control, protect the border, and combat illegal cross-border transportation of goods.

Not only focusing on managing and protecting the border area, Hoanh Mo Border Guard Station also does a good job of social prevention, professional prevention, promoting propaganda activities, mobilizing people in the border area to raise legal awareness, not to participate, assist, or cover up smuggling activities. Thereby widely launching a movement for the whole people to participate in preventing crime and smuggling.

With drastic and appropriate solutions, since the beginning of the year, Hoanh Mo Border Guard Station has presided over and coordinated the detection and handling of 12 cases/25 law violators in the border area, seized 54kg of fireworks, 180kg of sausages, 170kg of biscuits; issued decisions to prosecute cases, hand over to competent investigation agencies 3 cases/7 subjects; handled 9 cases/18 subjects for administrative violations.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thanh Hoang, Political Commissar of Hoanh Mo Border Guard Station, added: The Hoanh Mo (Vietnam) - Dong Trung (China) border gate pair has just officially opened for tourists and residents of the XNC border. Besides the advantages and promoting trade, the opening of the border gate also poses a potential risk of increasing smuggling and illegal transportation of goods across the border and border gates if not well controlled. Therefore, in the coming time, the unit will continue to focus on deploying and implementing synchronous border protection measures, closely coordinating with other forces to effectively combat smuggling, trade fraud, and illegal transportation of goods across the border and border gates. Hoanh Mo Border Guard Station will also step up close coordination with the Chinese border management and protection forces to exchange information, fight and prevent smuggling and other crimes, contributing to firmly protecting political security, order and social safety in the area.
