Due to injuries that have not yet recovered, two stars of the Vietnamese national team, Nguyen Tien Linh and Que Ngoc Hai, are at risk of missing the 2023 Asian Cup in Qatar.

Center-back Que Ngoc Hai suffered a muscle tear since joining the national team in October 2023 and relapsed during a training session with Binh Duong on December 15. Tien Linh suffered a groin injury when Binh Duong lost 0-3 in a visit to Hanoi Police Club in round 8 of V-League 2023/24 on December 26.
The duo were still called up by coach Philippe Troussier to prepare for the 2023 Asian Cup, but doctors said it would be difficult for them to recover in time. Most likely, both will be removed from the squad before the national team leaves for Qatar on January 5.
Coach Troussier is considering letting Tien Linh and Que Ngoc Hai return to their clubs to completely treat their injuries, in preparation for the matches in the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia in March.
It is expected that the Vietnam Football Federation will have official information about the cases of Tien Linh and Que Ngoc Hai at 5:00 p.m. today (January 3). The injury problem in the Vietnam national team continues to cause Coach Troussier a headache before the 2023 Asian Cup.
After being taken for an MRI scan by the team doctor, midfielder Nguyen Hoang Duc was diagnosed with swelling of the anterior and posterior tibiotalar ligaments, posterior talofibular ligament, and soft tissue swelling around the medial left ankle.
With this injury, the player of The Cong - Viettel Club continues to have to practice separately with the doctor, unable to practice normally with his teammates in the Vietnam national team. Because the team is about to leave for Qatar to train in preparation for the 2023 Asian Cup, Coach Troussier is very worried.
The Vietnamese team is facing an "injury storm". Those who have missed the 2023 Asian Cup so far include Van Toan, Thanh Chung, Bui Tien Dung, Duc Chien, Thanh Nhan and Dang Van Lam.
According to the regulations of the 2023 Asian Cup organizing committee, the deadline for participating teams to submit a list of 26 players is January 2. For the Vietnamese team, coach Troussier and the Vietnam Football Federation are said to have submitted the above list to the AFC.
This list of 26 players can still change at least 6 hours before the first match of the Vietnamese team against Japan on January 14. Therefore, the French coach still plans to bring a total of 30 players to Qatar.
