The Vietnamese team's victory over Hong Kong (China) and Syria in a recent series of international friendly matches has attracted the attention of the Indonesian media.

The Vietnamese team will be Indonesia's opponent in the final round of the Asian Cup football championship taking place early next year. Therefore, the recent friendly matches of coach Philippe Troussier's team have attracted the attention of the Indonesian press.
Indonesia's Indo Sport newspaper said: "Indonesia's opponents at the Asian Cup all had international friendly matches in recent days, Japan celebrated their victory, while the Vietnamese team remained undefeated."
Indo Sport added: "Indonesia is in Group D with Japan, Vietnam and Iraq at the Asian Football Championship.
Looking at the results of the recent friendly matches, it seems that the Indonesian team needs to improve its performance."
In a series of friendly matches during FIFA Days (the day the World Football Federation allows national teams to freely gather players from clubs and perform international duties), the Indonesian team drew 0-0 with Palestine and lost 0-2 to Argentina. Both matches took place in Jakarta (Indonesia).
Meanwhile, the Vietnamese team won both Hong Kong (China) and Syria, with the same score of 1-0, on June 15 and 20.
Commenting on the victories of coach Philippe Troussier's team, Indo Sport wrote: "We need to be 'vigilant' with the Vietnamese team. Our Southeast Asian neighbor has played two friendly matches with very positive results."

Bola Sport newspaper added: "Those are the matches where they try to perfect their squad. These three opponents include Vietnam, Japan and Iraq.
Among them, Japan ranked 20th in the world, Iraq ranked 67th, and the Vietnamese team ranked 95th in the world (16th in Asia). Meanwhile, Indonesia ranked 149th in the world and 28th in Asia."
Before attending the Asian Cup early next year in Qatar, both Vietnam and Indonesia will participate in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Asia later this year.
