The Vietnamese team will be Indonesia's opponent in the final round of the Asian Cup football championship taking place early next year. Therefore, the recent friendly matches of coach Philippe Troussier's team have attracted the attention of the Indonesian press.
Indonesia's Indo Sport newspaper said: "Indonesia's opponents at the Asian Cup all had international friendly matches in recent days, Japan celebrated their victory, while the Vietnamese team remained undefeated."
Indo Sport added: "Indonesia is in Group D with Japan, Vietnam and Iraq at the Asian Football Championship.
Looking at the results of the recent friendly matches, it seems that the Indonesian team needs to improve its performance."
In a series of friendly matches during FIFA Days (the day the World Football Federation allows national teams to freely gather players from clubs and perform international duties), the Indonesian team drew 0-0 with Palestine and lost 0-2 to Argentina. Both matches took place in Jakarta (Indonesia).
Meanwhile, the Vietnamese team won both Hong Kong (China) and Syria, with the same score of 1-0, on June 15 and 20.
Commenting on the victories of coach Philippe Troussier's team, Indo Sport wrote: "We need to be 'vigilant' with the Vietnamese team. Our Southeast Asian neighbor has played two friendly matches with very positive results."
