On the afternoon of August 30, the Vietnamese team had its first training session, aiming for two friendly matches against Russia and Thailand within the framework of the LPBank Cup 2024. Except for the players participating in the National Super Cup such as Nguyen Tuan Anh, Nguyen Phong Hong Duy, Trinh Xuan Hoang, all players were present.
In this training session, there are players working with the Korean strategist for the first time such as goalkeeper Trinh Xuan Hoang, defender Nguyen Phong Hong Duy, Giap Tuan Duong and midfielder Phan Van Duc.
In addition to some new faces, the coaching staff of the Vietnamese team also has a "new recruit". That is former player Pham Thanh Luong. The former midfielder of Hanoi Club with the nickname Luong "di" is currently the "deputy general" for coach Alexandre Polking at Hanoi Police Club. He will retire at the end of the 2023 season and is preparing to pursue a coaching career. Thanh Luong has an illustrious playing career with 4 times winning the Vietnam Golden Ball award.
Former midfielder Pham Thanh Luong made his debut for the Vietnam national team as an assistant. He joined coach Kim Sang-sik's coaching team, with the task of supporting training, implementing lesson plans, and demonstrating tactics and techniques to players...
Besides Korean assistants, coach Kim Sang-sik wants to utilize Vietnamese assistants to connect with players, creating a comfortable atmosphere.
Familiar faces of the Vietnamese team attended the training session on the afternoon of August 30, just a few hours after gathering.
Nguyen Van Tung (number 25) is the face selected by Mr. Kim Sang-sik from the Vietnam U.23 team. He, along with Bui Vi Hao and Phan Tuan Tai, are expected to be the next generation of the national team.
Coach Kim Sang-sik will have 2 weeks of training and 2 friendly matches in September to review the team, test the players' abilities and test new tactics.
Young goalkeeper Nguyen Van Viet was also given the opportunity to try his hand at the Vietnam national team. He was called up by coach Philippe Troussier in previous training sessions, but has never been a regular.
Because in the goal, the Vietnamese team still has the experienced duo Dang Van Lam and Nguyen Filip.
Nguyen Hai Long and Nguyen Van Truong are young midfielders of Hanoi Club, expected to create a new breeze in the midfield.
However, the young players need to surpass their senior Do Hung Dung, one of the most experienced national players. Hung Dung is currently wearing the captain's armband and is highly regarded for his tenacity and tactical vision. He is a rare veteran of the 1993 generation still remaining in the Vietnam national team, alongside Van Lam and Que Ngoc Hai.
Center back Nguyen Thanh Chung was not used much under coach Troussier. However, his ability to command the defense, fight in the air and good defensive skills help the player born in 1996 have a competitive advantage in the new phase with coach Kim Sang-sik.
Nguyen Quang Hai is gradually regaining his form in the Hanoi Police Club. The star born in 1997 plays regularly and contributes significantly to the gameplay. In the 2-1 victory of the Vietnamese representative against Buriram United at the ASEAN Club Championship (Shopee Cup), Quang Hai played well.
Phan Van Duc is also a 'new but old' face in this training session. In an interview before the training session, Van Duc hopes to practice well to compete for a starting position. The player born in 1996 scored a goal against Buriram with a beautiful long-range shot, contributing to helping the Hanoi Police Club win the opening match of the Southeast Asian tournament.
Women's team goes to Europe for training
This afternoon (August 30), VFF President Tran Quoc Tuan visited and encouraged the entire women's football team (currently training at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center) before leaving for training in the Czech Republic. Also meeting were VFF Vice President Nguyen Xuan Vu, VFF General Secretary Duong Nghiep Khoi and representatives of VFF's functional departments.
VFF President Tran Quoc Tuan emphasized that football in many countries is currently developing in many ways, especially with the changes in the Philippines, so Vietnamese women's football needs to make appropriate adjustments. According to the plan, VFF has contacted European countries to organize training trips and support the team, ready for 2025.
Before departure, VFF leaders hope that members will stay healthy and have a quality training session, meeting professional requirements.
Coach Mai Duc Chung and his team will have three friendly matches in the host country on September 4 against Red Bull Leipzig (Germany), September 8 against FK Pardubice (Czech Republic) and September 11 against Viktoria Plzen (Czech Republic).
The flight of the Vietnamese women's team will take off at 3:30 a.m. on September 1 from Noi Bai International Airport.
