The Football Association of Thailand (FAT) decided to terminate the contract with coach Polking early, which was to last until the end of the Asian Cup in early 2024. The Brazilian coach led Thailand since 2021 through 37 matches and won 21 victories, notably the two AFF Cup championships in 2020 and 2022.

Thailand's Daily News reported this morning (November 22): "After the match with Singapore, there was information that coach Mano Polking would not continue to lead the Thai team. Coach Mano Polking cried after this match."

"Sources said the coach, who has dual German and Brazilian citizenship, has parted ways with the players. Mano Polking also refused to talk about his future," the Daily News added.

On her personal page, the head of the Thai national team, Nualphan Lamsam (commonly known as Madam Pang), confirmed her separation from coach Mano Polking.

Madam Pang wrote: "Thank you for the dedication of Coach Mano Polking over the past two years. It has been a long journey. Although the journey has been full of ups and downs, we have overcome it.

Thank you for the gift of two consecutive AFF Cup championships for the Thai team. Although we will part ways, I am sure we will meet again on the football path as friends."

Coach Mano Polking's contract with the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) runs until February 2024. But after facing criticism for the 1-2 loss to China on November 16, Coach Mano Polking is facing tremendous pressure.

After losing to China, the Thai team no longer has much chance to pass the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia (Thailand is in Group C with South Korea, China and Singapore).

The Daily News announced the identity of the person who will replace coach Mano Polking, temporarily taking charge of the Thai national team in the near future, that is Masatada Ishii (Japanese). Mr. Ishii is the former coach of Buriram United Club (Thailand), former Technical Director (GĐKT) of FAT.

Daily News shared information: "Coach Masatada Ishii was supposed to replace Mr. Mano Polking after the King's Cup last September. However, FAT still wants to give Mr. Mano Polking more time, until the Thai team loses to China and has to face too much pressure."

This afternoon, November 22, FAT announced the contract with Coach Ishii. His debut match with the Thai team is expected to be a friendly match against Japan in Tokyo on January 1, 2024, ahead of the 2023 Asian Cup.

During his career, coach Masatada Ishii led Kashima Antlers to win the J-League 1 and the Emperor's Cup. In 2019, Ishii went to Thailand to lead Samut Prakan City and then Buriram United in the 2021-2023 period. He helped Buriram win the treble twice, including Thai League 1, Thai FA Cup, Thai League Cup in the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 seasons.
