The match between Spain and Italy at De Grolsch Veste Stadium (Enschede, Netherlands) received public attention. Two years ago at Euro 2020, Spain lost to Mancini's team after a lucky penalty shootout.
Spain pressed the ball and took an early lead in the third minute. Bonucci lost the ball to Yeremy Pino just outside the box and the Villarreal striker easily beat Donnarumma in a one-on-one, opening the score 1-0 for Spain.
Italy also quickly equalized. In the 10th minute, Spanish defender Le Normand handled the ball in the penalty area and the referee immediately pointed to the penalty spot. Ciro Immobile successfully finished to equalize 1-1 for Italy.
In the following period, both teams had clear chances to score but failed. In the 21st minute, Frattesi put the ball into the Spanish net but the goal was disallowed due to offside.
In the second half, both teams continued to show poor finishing ability. Morata and Rodri from Spain continuously missed unfortunate opportunities while Frattesi from Italy kicked the ball out of bounds in the 64th minute.
It seemed like the match would have to be decided in extra time, but in the 88th minute, from Rodri's long-range shot, substitute Joselu quickly scored from close range to seal a 2-1 victory for Spain.
La Fuente's team won the right to play in the final of the UEFA Nations League 2022/23 on June 19. Spain's opponent is Croatia, the team that defeated the Netherlands in the semi-finals.
