Spectacular Vietnam futsal
The Vietnamese futsal team has excellently entered the semi-finals of the 2024 Southeast Asian futsal tournament with the best achievement in Group A, after 4 wins against opponents Timor Leste (4-1), Malaysia (2-0), Brunei (14-0) and host team Thailand (3-2).
Especially in the match that decided the top spot on the evening of November 6, coach Diego Raul Giustozzi and his team, despite losing early after an own goal by Nguyen Thinh Phat in the 2nd minute, were not discouraged but rose up strongly to equalize 1-1 thanks to captain Duc Hoa.
Spirit and reasonable tactics once again helped the Vietnamese futsal team make a spectacular comeback. After conceding a goal 1-2 in the 31st minute, we played very well and won 3-2 after a double from Dinh Cong Vien.
This is a special tournament, when the Vietnamese futsal team is getting younger, without the service of former captain Tran Van Vu, the hero of the previous two World Cups, who retired from the team to make way for his juniors to take on more responsibility.
The rejuvenated Vietnam futsal team (red shirts) defeated Thailand on their own soil.
Although not following the team, the owner of 3 Golden Balls of Vietnam futsal (2015, 2016, 2019) still followed closely, continuously encouraged his teammates from afar, and was especially happy after the victory on the night of November 6.
Tran Van Vu shared: "It was a well-deserved victory for the Vietnamese futsal team. We and Thailand both rejuvenated after the 2024 Asian Championship, but they still kept many older players on the bench.
While we used many younger faces, born after 2000 such as Huynh Mi Woen (2000), Dinh Cong Vien, Nhan Gia Hung (2002), Vu Ngoc Anh (2004), Nguyen Da Hai (2005)... all played and scored in the tournament.
So this victory of the Vietnamese futsal team is very worthy, not because of the young Thai opponent that we won. In fact, they also aimed to win so that in the semi-final they will face an easier team than Indonesia."
A boost for the new Vietnamese futsal team
After Nguyen Bao Quan, Tran Van Vu is considered the second generation leader of the Vietnamese futsal team with 14 years of dedication, playing 78 matches and contributing 43 goals with a series of achievements in the Futsal World Cup 2016, 2020 and the heroic fourth place in the Asian Cup 2016.
The former striker born in 1990 highly appreciated the performance of the Vietnamese team: "We entered this match with a very good spirit, the young players had a good match, very confident. This is a victory with great psychological significance for the rejuvenating Vietnamese futsal team.
In the past, we have lost many times to our opponents Thailand. But this victory will most likely be the beginning of a new generation of the Vietnamese futsal team.
Defeating the Thais right on their home field will help the young players gain more confidence in the following confrontations, and I'm sure we will meet them a lot."
