Spectacular coronation

With the support of a large number of fans, the team of Thuy Loi University and the team of Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports delivered an exciting, "hot" match on every meter of grass with many beautiful moves and fierce disputes. In the group stage encounter, the team of Thuy Loi University played better but was held to a 1-1 draw by their opponents. In the final match, the team of Thuy Loi University suffered a loss of personnel when they lost two key players, central defender Vu Van Huy and midfielder Tran Bao Trung. The lack of two important players in the squad somewhat affected the strength of the representative from the North. Coach Vu Van Trung's team entered the match at a rather slow pace, using many long balls throughout the first half. Meanwhile, the initiative came from the team of Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports. Just like having the advantage of playing at home, coach Pham Thai Vinh and his team confidently held the ball and deployed an attacking game but also encountered many difficulties in finding loopholes in the opponent's defense.

Notably, the team of Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports made a change in tactics when coach Pham Thai Vinh sent striker Nguyen Minh Nhat (who is leading the list of top scorers with 5 goals) to play deep to avoid being caught. The control of the game was maintained by the team of Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports in the second half. However, all the representative of Ho Chi Minh City could do was to cause trouble for the goal of the University of Water Resources. On the other hand, the University of Water Resources prioritized the solidity of their home field and tried to promote their strengths in set pieces. At least twice, Nguyen Hoang Danh's free kicks from close to the penalty area caused the goal of the University of Physical Education and Sports in Ho Chi Minh City to shake. In particular, the crossbar once saved the team of coach Pham Thai Vinh.

The 80 minutes of official play ended without any goals being scored. The two teams had to go into a nerve-wracking penalty shootout to determine the winner. On the decisive 11m mark, after 5 kicks, the team from Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports won with a score of 4-2, thereby winning the championship of the THACO Cup 2024 Youth Union. This is the first time the team from Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports has won the championship.

The closing ceremony, the final match and the award ceremony were honored to welcome distinguished guests: Mr. Tran Hong Ha, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister; Mr. Phan Van Mai, member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee; Dr. Vu Hai Quan, member of the Party Central Committee, Director of Ho Chi Minh City National University; Mr. Bui Quang Huy, alternate member of the Party Central Committee, First Secretary of the Central Youth Union; Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc, Deputy Minister of Education and Training; Mr. Hoang Dao Cuong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Mr. Tran Ba Duong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Truong Hai Group Joint Stock Company (THACO), the main sponsor; Mr. Dang Ha Viet, Director of the Department of Sports and Physical Training; Mr. Nguyen Xuan Vu, Vice President of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF); Mr. Duong Nghiep Khoi, General Secretary of the VFF; Dr. Tran Trong Dao, Principal of Ton Duc Thang University.
