On May 29, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs coordinated with the People's Committee of Gia Vien district to organize a conference to directly contact and have policy dialogue with poor and near-poor households in the area.
At the dialogue conference, representatives of relevant departments and branches conveyed to poor and near-poor households in Gia Vien district policies on: preferential credit, education, health care, vocational training, social protection, etc.
The opinions and recommendations of poor and near-poor households were directly answered by representatives of relevant agencies at the conference, focusing on a number of contents such as: policies to support funding for building new, upgrading and repairing houses; wishes to extend the loan period for production, reduce loan interest rates, support policies for lonely elderly people with no place to rely on, single mothers raising children, support for tuition fees for children to go to school...
In recent years, in order to effectively reduce poverty, Gia Vien district has focused on implementing projects to support poor households in diversifying their livelihood models and replicating poverty reduction models, including a project to support cow breeding. This is the basis for households to escape poverty. According to the results of the poverty household review conducted in November 2023, the poverty rate in the district has decreased to 1.92%.
Organizing direct dialogue conferences with poor and near-poor households is an opportunity for authorities and localities to better understand the specific circumstances and wishes of poor households, as well as the difficulties in accessing policies to support the poor. From there, propose appropriate poverty reduction support solutions, creating resources for the poor to escape poverty sustainably.
