In the process of strong and comprehensive innovation to better serve the people, the Quang Ninh Health sector always determines that improving the medical ethics of the medical team is first of all improving the skills, research level, application of science and technology, mastering modern equipment to be able to quickly find the cause of the disease, treat patients effectively and safely. Along with that is enhancing the sense of responsibility, dedication to patients, for the health of the community, to be worthy of Uncle Ho's teaching "A good doctor is like a mother".
High-tech, specialized development
At the end of 2024, Dr. Pham Viet Hung, Head of the Department of Surgery (Provincial General Hospital) and a number of colleagues at the unit were sent to study organ transplantation at Hospital No. 2, Guangxi Medical University (China). Here, the doctors and nurses directly participated in the process of washing and transplanting kidneys and livers; especially participating in the very difficult case of both kidney and pancreas transplants. Dr. Hung shared: Although the training time is not long, this is a very useful course, giving us the opportunity to be trained in each procedure in kidney transplantation. Along with other training courses in the country, we hope to soon deploy kidney transplantation techniques, contributing to bringing the opportunity to continue living to many patients.
The provincial health sector aims to carry out the first kidney transplant in the second quarter of 2025. This is the final and most effective method to treat patients with end-stage chronic kidney failure. To realize this goal, closely following the direction and guidance of the province and the health sector, many medical teams and doctors from the provincial General Hospital and the Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital have been sent to study and receive kidney transplant techniques at the Viet Duc Friendship Hospital and Hospital No. 2, Guangxi Medical University (China). At the same time, the units also organized training courses and learned practical experiences at hospitals that have successfully carried out kidney transplants nationwide.
In order to achieve the goal of becoming a high-tech, specialized medical center of the Northeast region, over the past years, the provincial health sector has drastically implemented solutions to improve the capacity of the health system. In particular, it regularly directs provincial hospitals to develop key specialized fields to form specialized, high-quality medical centers. From 2016 to present, patients with cardiovascular diseases have received intensive treatment at the Cardiovascular Center of the following hospitals: Provincial General Hospital, Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi, Vinmec Ha Long International General Hospital. In the field of oncology, patients receive intensive treatment at the Oncology Center of Bai Chay Hospital. Many infertile couples have become parents thanks to successful treatment at the Reproductive Support Center at Quang Ninh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital. In addition, many specialized techniques have been successfully implemented in the province, thereby saving the lives of many serious and critical cases.
Currently, Quang Ninh provincial hospitals have deployed 50% of central-level techniques. These are remarkable results of the health sector to help people feel secure in receiving treatment right in the province without having to transfer to another hospital. Up to now, Quang Ninh's transfer rate is only 3.57%, the lowest among the localities in the Red River Delta.
Wholeheartedly for people's health
In order to effectively carry out the task of taking care of people's health, the provincial health sector always focuses on improving the quantity and quality of human resources from the provincial to the communal level. By the end of 2024, the whole sector has 8,549 people, of which 6,642 are medical and pharmaceutical professionals (77.7%); other human resources 1,907 people (22.3%). With the current human resources, the sector has reached 17.7 doctors/10,000 people, 25 nurses/10,000 people, 7 pharmacists/10,000 people. The province's health human resources are regularly supplemented, attracted and trained. From 2020 to present, the industry has sent 4 PhDs, 130 CK II doctors, 653 CK I doctors, 347 masters, 347 university, 963 college, trained 16,474 people, and trained 210 people in foreign languages and 211 people in information technology.
Currently, the general satisfaction rate of people with medical services in the province is 92.3% and the overall satisfaction index is 89.5%, higher than the general target set by the Ministry of Health of 80% or more. “Since mid-2024, I have been diagnosed with metastatic throat cancer. I went to the Central level for treatment, but after learning more, I chose to return to the Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital for treatment. The dedicated care of the medical team, along with modern diagnostic and treatment equipment, has helped me have confidence and peace of mind in treating this serious illness, which requires a long-term treatment process, instead of the hardships for myself and my family when having to be treated far from home, which is costly,” shared Mr. Dam Quang Ly (Quang Yen Town).
Along with professional activities, the province's medical staff is always enthusiastic in participating in charity and humanitarian activities. Many hospitals cooperate to maintain the model of "Humanitarian porridge pot", "Charity wardrobe"; call for gifts, treatment costs for patients in especially difficult circumstances; sponsor and support children who have lost their source of support; register for tissue and organ donation... In the humanitarian blood donation movement, the province's medical staff is always the core force, leading the way. More than anyone else, they are the ones who understand the importance of precious drops of blood to help patients overcome critical situations.
From 2016 to present, the hospitals: Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi, Provincial General Hospital, Bai Chay, Obstetrics and Pediatrics, Cam Pha Regional General Hospital have maintained mobile medical examination activities and provided free medicine to people in remote, isolated and disadvantaged areas in the province. In 2024 alone, the units examined 19,600 people, 8,085 people were consulted and provided free medicine. "Taking expertise as volunteering" is the way doctors and nurses bring healthcare to the community, helping people proactively go to medical facilities for medical examination and treatment, improving their understanding of epidemics, scientific eating habits, and regular living. From there, people can prevent diseases and take care of their own health and that of their families. At the same time, doctors and nurses have an environment to practice, improve their skills, and spread the good deeds for the community of the medical team of Quang Ninh.
