Recently, implementing Decision No. 522 dated May 14, 2018 of the Prime Minister on the Project "Career education and orientation of student streaming in general education for the period 2018 - 2025", the provincial education sector has made innovations in the approach to career education right from the junior high school level. It can be mentioned that junior high schools have focused on integrating career guidance content into subjects such as: Technology, Information Technology, Arts, Civic Education from the beginning of the grade, helping students have the opportunity to access careers early.
In addition to introducing at school and in the classroom, secondary schools actively cooperate with vocational schools and businesses to organize field trips and practice. This helps students visualize more clearly the characteristics of each industry and have appropriate choices.
One of the typical examples of career guidance experience activities of schools in the 2024-2025 school year is the field trip program at Hanoi Community College - Lang Son Branch organized by Dong Kinh Secondary School on March 14, 2025. In the program, students experience many different professions such as tour guide, translator, interpreter, chef. Ms. Ha Thuy Hoa, homeroom teacher of class 9A2 said: "When directly participating in activities such as presentations, tour guides, translation or food preparation, students will have a more realistic and objective view of each profession. From there, choosing a career path after secondary school will become easier".
Also within the series of career guidance activities, on March 17, 2025, That Khe Town Secondary School coordinated with the College of Technology and Industrial Economics (Thai Nguyen) to organize a career guidance session for 9th grade students. Here, students not only learned about the needs of the labor market but also received advice on their study path and choosing a suitable career. Luong Thanh Long, a 9th grade student, shared: "Before, I thought there was only one path after junior high school, which was to go to high school and then go to university, but the consultation session helped me understand that vocational training is also a wise choice. If you love it and have good skills, job opportunities and future development are still very open."
In addition to direct experiential activities, the provincial education sector also focuses on innovating career guidance methods at secondary schools through the application of technology. Some secondary schools in the province have experimented with the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in career guidance, helping students take tests to analyze their interests and abilities to provide suitable career suggestions. In addition, thematic activities and exchanges with experts and successful alumni are also held regularly. Real stories from predecessors have created great motivation for students, helping them realize that the path to success has many different directions.
With innovative efforts, the work of streaming and career guidance for students after graduating from junior high school in the province has achieved positive results. If in the past, most students after graduating from junior high school only focused on the high school exam, now the rate of students choosing vocational training is increasing. According to statistics from the provincial education and training sector, from 2022 to present, the rate of students after graduating from junior high school studying at vocational schools has reached over 18% (an increase of more than 3% compared to previous years), thereby showing a change in the awareness of students and parents about career paths.
Ms. Phan My Hanh, Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Education and Training, said: "Career guidance and orientation for secondary school students have achieved many positive results, helping them have a clearer orientation about their careers. To improve efficiency, schools need to continue to promote propaganda, help students understand that vocational training is a potential choice, and at the same time strengthen links with businesses to ensure output. The most important thing is to help students understand the value of labor and develop skills suitable to social needs."
Innovation in career guidance not only helps secondary school students make choices that suit their abilities and interests, but also plays an important role in training human resources to meet social needs. When awareness of career guidance is changed, students are no longer confined to the traditional learning path but can confidently pursue suitable careers, opening up many development opportunities in the future./.
