Keeping up with the changes in society, Dien Bien College of Economics and Technology has opened many new majors and occupations to meet the needs of learners. These are also favorable conditions for the school to promote enrollment to attract learners and improve training quality. Mr. Luu Quang Vu, Head of Training Management Department, College of Economics and Technology shared: “The school regularly improves and updates training programs, expands training forms, and vocational training, focusing on training occupations suitable to human resource needs and the labor market. The school continuously registers to add new training occupations to diversify occupations in the fields where the school has strengths. At the same time, it meets the learning needs of children of ethnic groups living in the area and the need to train human resources for Dien Bien province and for the northern provinces of Laos. Up to now, the school is training 10 majors and professions at college level, 14 majors and professions at intermediate level, 20 professions at elementary level and nearly 30 short-term training professions under 3 months...”.
Dien Bien College of Economics and Technology is one of the first vocational schools in the province to have a clear innovation in vocational training enrollment. “Instead of waiting for students like before, the school sends a team of staff to do enrollment work to communes, meeting students while they are still in middle school and high school to promote information and introduce training professions. This team has gained a lot of experience over many years of training, carrying out professional enrollment work through various information channels, especially through social networks... This activity helps students gain an understanding of careers associated with their interests and abilities, bringing important results in enrollment work. In 2023, the enrollment target for the college system of the school is 110 students, 270 intermediate students, and 300 elementary students. Up to now, enrollment work has basically been ensured according to plan", said Mr. Luu Quang Vu.
From training mainly for commune-level civil servants, up to now, the College of Economics and Technology has opened many new majors and occupations in commerce and services such as: Supermarket sales, Restaurant - hotel services, Tour guide; occupations training in aesthetic techniques such as: Hair styling, Skin care, Cosmetic makeup, Nail painting techniques... Student Khang Thi Cau, Huoi Tong 1 village, Huoi Leng commune, Muong Cha district is one of the first students of class K35 of restaurant - hotel services at Dien Bien College of Economics and Technology. Having just completed the graduation exam after more than 2 years of studying at the school, the 18-year-old girl is confident in the profession she was trained in and is ready to enter the labor market. Student Cau shared: "The opportunity to come to this industry was when the teachers came to recruit students at the secondary school where I was studying. At that time, I was only a 9th grader but I also wanted to try new experiences, see how much I could change. Upon entering school, I was advised by my teachers to study the restaurant and hotel industry - a new major of the school. After the first year of studying theory and cultural subjects, in the second year, my friends and I had an internship at Muong Thanh Grand Dien Bien Phu Hotel. With the practical experiences here, I was able to consolidate my theoretical knowledge, hone my practical skills and communication skills, and become more confident, no longer shy as before. Currently, I am home for summer vacation, waiting for the graduation exam results and then will look for a job in the profession I studied...".
Not only Cau, students studying the trade and service majors at Dien Bien College of Economics and Technology all have time to practice and gain practical experience at businesses. For example, the Supermarket Sales major experiences at Hoa Ba Supermarket, Ha Minh Supermarket; the Tour Guide major experiences at historical sites under the Provincial Relic Management Board... According to Mr. Luu Quang Vu, this is an activity that meets the current trend of linking and coordinating with businesses in vocational training. "The school has been cooperating with businesses in the field that the school trains to invite experts to participate in compiling and evaluating training programs, evaluating students and interns at businesses. At the same time, surveying and receiving feedback from employers trained by the school to promptly adjust the training program, training methods, meeting the requirements of businesses in terms of knowledge and vocational skills..." - Mr. Luu Quang Vu added.
To achieve the goal of building a key, high-quality vocational training institution, in the direction of multi-disciplinary and multi-field training, in the coming time, Dien Bien College of Economics and Technology will flexibly implement two parallel training methods: by year and credit accumulation; in which, the focus is on innovating training content, programs and methods. At the same time, expanding training forms such as: Full-time, on-the-job, distance, guided self-study, associated with the requirement of improving the quality of training in industries and occupations suitable to the needs of human resources and the labor market, linking training and fostering human resources with the implementation of the planning and socio-economic development plan of the province. The school continues to propose that the Provincial People's Committee and the General Department of Vocational Education (Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs) invest in facilities and other resources so that the school has enough conditions to open new and diverse training majors and occupations, especially those in the service sector to meet the needs and changes of the local labor market, such as: Logistics, Veterinary services, Land law consulting services, high-tech agricultural occupations... From there, develop the scale of students corresponding to the training majors and occupations.
