Engineer Team No. 2 'Opening the way to victory', returning home safely

According to information from the Department of Peacekeeping, 165 officers and staff of the second echelon returned home after completing their mission.

The remaining 15 people will be responsible for handing over the work to the next squadron, and four officers and employees will continue to carry out their duties with the next squadron.

Immediately after the plane carrying Engineering Team No. 2 landed at Noi Bai International Airport, the members attended the flag-raising ceremony solemnly held at VIP area A.

Speaking at the ceremony, Major General Pham Manh Thang - Director of the Department of Peacekeeping expressed his joy that the Engineering Team No. 2 had successfully completed its assigned tasks, with many tasks completed excellently, and was praised and commended by agencies and commanders of the UNISFA mission; respected by international friends and colleagues; and appreciated and loved by local authorities and people.

In particular, Major General Pham Manh Thang highly appreciated the four comrades of Engineering Team No. 2 for completing their tasks well and voluntarily continuing to stay in Engineering Team No. 3.

"The dedication and contributions of comrades have spread the image of Uncle Ho's soldiers and even more spread the image of Vietnamese blue beret soldiers, creating a connection between the local government and people with the UN peacekeeping force in general and Vietnam in particular, thereby creating favorable conditions for the next echelons to perform well their tasks in the mission area," Mr. Thang affirmed.

On behalf of all officers and employees of the unit, Colonel Nguyen Viet Hung, captain of Engineering Team No. 2, reported on the results of the Team's term of office.

Notably, there are some outstanding achievements of the Team, such as: Maintaining and repairing main roads (about 59 km long), which are the axis roads connecting Sudan and South Sudan through the Abyei area - a regular task of the unit in both the rainy and dry seasons; opening new patrol routes with a total length of 337 km in the dry season, ensuring the patrols of the Infantry Battalions in ensuring security in the Abyei area.

In particular, the 2nd Engineer Team was the first engineering unit to completely build a military base in the fastest time. The 2nd Engineer Team was deeply recognized by the United Nations and awarded a letter of commendation.

On September 24, the Ministry of National Defense held a ceremony to send off Level 2 Field Hospital No. 6 and Engineering Team No. 3 to carry out their mission and have arrived, receiving the handover of work from previous units.

Of these, 184 officers and staff of the 3rd Engineering Team left to replace the 2nd Engineering Team at UNISFA (Abyei area).

Level 2 Field Hospital No. 6 replaced Level 2 Field Hospital No. 5 with 63 members who have also departed for the United Nations Peacekeeping mission at the UNMISS mission (South Sudan).
