The Vietnam Stage Artists Association is promoting investment activities in writing high-quality scripts to provide to art units nationwide.

Everlasting vitality

In the discussion "Artists and the stage" on September 20 organized by Ho Chi Minh City Television with the theme "Theatrical issues today", People's Artist Trinh Thuy Mui - Vice President of the Vietnam Literature and Arts Association, President of the Vietnam Stage Artists Association - said that Vietnamese theater is facing a decline in scripts, writing camps are still held but less than 30% of scripts are used.

Dr. Bui Nhu Lai, Head of the Department of Theater - Hanoi University of Theater and Cinema, said that the solution to improve the situation of "using less than 30%" of scripts from writing camps is that authors need to focus on the core values of humanity in the script. Today's practical life really needs scripts with content about people's behavior towards nature, relationships between people, people's behavior towards the relationships around them...

"Looking back at the history of our country's theater, we have had famous writers and playwrights, such as Nguyen Huy Tuong, Nguyen Dinh Thi, Luu Quang Vu... Why do their works have such lasting vitality? Because the values they aim for are humanistic values, solving problems about people, people associated with the times... These contents, no matter how many years have passed, still retain their value" - Dr. Bui Nhu Lai emphasized.

Talking about the solution to the shortage of Vietnamese historical scripts, People's Artist Trinh Thuy Mui said that in the near future, the Vietnam Stage Artists Association will invite historians to participate in seminars to talk and exchange so that young authors can grasp the historical spirit of each period, at the same time better understand national heroes and choose the author's perspective to compose.

"When reenacting a historical story, the author has the right to fictionalize. However, he must not distort the history of the nation, the thousand-year-old tradition that makes up the sacred soul of Vietnam" - People's Artist Trinh Thuy Mui said.

Change creative thinking

Experts say that one of the reasons for the scarcity of popular scripts is lack of investment, leading to a lack of plays that reflect contemporary life.

Author Nguyen Thi Minh Ngoc shared her personal experience: "I have been with Hoang Thai Thanh stage for many years, the most important thing is to meet and exchange with each other regularly. Only then will the ideas for writing scripts be close to the stage and to life. I wrote 10 scripts for Hoang Thai Thanh stage, of which 3 scripts had to be stopped at the last minute. The reason is that the scripts still had many loopholes that needed to be reinforced and edited. Failure in writing is common. If you invest carefully, there will still be good scripts that will be popular."

Meritorious Artist Ca Le Hong added: "If you want a good script, a popular script, you have to invest. But investing does not mean pouring money to get a good script, but you need to invest in training a team of young writers, nurturing a team of middle-aged writers and placing orders with authors who have already established their names."

In recent times, the Vietnam Stage Artists Association has coordinated with the Department of Performing Arts to continuously open international experimental stage festivals every three years. The goal of these festivals is to create conditions for domestic creative forces to learn from world art, thereby changing their creative thinking in a modern direction.

Recently, the Authors' Association of the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association organized field trips, visits, and explorations of historical sites in the city, thereby providing more vivid materials to compose high-quality scripts about today's life through the perspective of the nation's heroic history.
