The exhibition, held at the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts from December 14 to 22, is a passionate project of painter Nguyen Dai Giang and painter Tuan Dinh.
Inverted art was developed by artist Nguyen Dai Giang in the early 1990s. In it, images, scenes or characters are drawn in reverse compared to the usual way of viewing, creating a visual effect, forcing viewers to change their perspective to explore and better understand the content of the work.
For artist Tuan Dinh, reverse art is a journey of constant discovery. Approaching this school since 2008, the artist is fascinated by its ability to change the way of thinking as well as the challenges it brings. He strives to combine traditional and modern elements with the desire to create works of depth and high aesthetics.

The V.upsidedownism 2024 Upside Down Art Exhibition is an opportunity for the public to discover not only great works of art but also experience a different world, where images, colors and compositions always change depending on the viewer's perspective. The works in this exhibition are not just paintings but also "outlets" for the imagination, an opportunity for each person to find meaning for themselves.
Through the exhibition, Nguyen Dai Giang and Tuan Dinh hope to inspire passion for art and stimulate the imagination of viewers, while affirming the power of art in conveying messages and changing the way we perceive the world. “This will be a special occasion for audiences to not only enjoy art but also participate in a journey of profound discovery of the infinite possibilities of visual art,” said the artists.
Upsidedown art (or upsidedownism) is not simply "turning" an image upside down, but a way of "reversing" the entire artistic way of thinking. The so-called "normal" becomes strange, and what is familiar suddenly becomes new and full of hidden meanings. In contrast to conventional paintings, in Upsidedownism, viewers cannot just look at the image but must "read" the work from many different angles to realize the profound meaning it brings. Each painting in this school contains a story, a message that can change depending on how the viewer chooses to approach it.
