Trade promotion helps Vietnamese businesses expand their markets and attract investment. Thanks to that, Vietnamese goods can reach further and improve their competitiveness in the world.
In the context of the constantly fluctuating world economy with a series of geopolitical conflicts, changes in trade policies of major countries are strongly affecting the global flow of goods.
This forces businesses to be flexible and adaptable, maintaining traditional markets while seeking opportunities in new markets. However, accessing foreign markets, especially niche markets, is not simple and requires careful preparation and support policies from the authorities.
Support Vietnamese businesses in finding partners
One of the potential but challenging markets for Vietnamese businesses is Kyrgyzstan. This Central Asian country has a high demand for Vietnamese agricultural, forestry and fishery products, especially spices such as cinnamon, star anise and pepper. However, bringing goods into this market is not easy.
A representative of Viet Linh Agricultural and Forestry Products Import-Export and Trading Company Limited said: "Vietnamese products are of good quality and are favored by Kyrgyzstan consumers, but the long geographical distance increases transportation costs. Furthermore, because Kyrgyzstan is a member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), imported goods must meet many strict regulations on quality control and food safety. This is a major obstacle for Vietnamese export enterprises."
Not only with small markets like Kyrgyzstan, but also with large and long-standing trade partners of Vietnam such as China or the United States, market and industry expansion also faces many challenges.

In China, a country with bilateral trade turnover of hundreds of billions of USD each year with Vietnam, fluctuations in trade policy also create many difficulties for businesses.
Mr. Nong Duc Lai, Vietnam's Trade Counselor in China, commented: "Every policy adjustment by China has a direct impact on Vietnam, both positive and negative. The US-China competition is increasingly fierce, import control measures are tightened, and at the same time, China is also promoting the development of domestic production, putting significant pressure on exported goods from Vietnam."
In addition, Vietnam also faces the risk of anti-dumping investigations when increasing exports to major markets. To overcome this challenge, businesses need to focus on improving product quality, complying with international standards and seeking support from trade promotion agencies.
Understanding the difficulties of enterprises, in recent times, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has promoted trade promotion activities through the system of Vietnamese trade offices abroad and trade promotion offices in many countries. Currently, Vietnam has 61 trade offices worldwide, playing an important role as a bridge between domestic enterprises and international partners.
One of the effective solutions for trade promotion is to organize fairs, exhibitions and business delegations to help businesses reach target markets. Especially with China - Vietnam's leading trade partner, these activities are increasingly promoted.
Mr. Vu Ba Phu - Director of the Trade Promotion Department - Ministry of Industry and Trade said that after the visit to Vietnam by Hainan Provincial Party Secretary Shen Xiaoming in February 2023, the Hainan provincial government is actively supporting Vietnam to soon open a Trade Promotion Office in Haikou City. Currently, the Trade Promotion Department is coordinating with the Hainan Provincial Department of Commerce to complete related procedures.

“The Trade Promotion Office will support Vietnamese enterprises in finding partners, expanding exports, accessing technology, and providing information to Chinese enterprises wishing to invest in Vietnam. The establishment of an office in Haikou promises to promote bilateral trade and expand cooperation between the two countries,” said Mr. Vu Ba Phu.
Not only promoting trade but also connecting investment
Trade promotion activities play an important role in introducing Vietnamese products to international markets. Through trade promotion offices and trade offices abroad, Vietnamese enterprises have the opportunity to access market information, find partners and expand their business networks.
In particular, overseas trade promotion offices not only support Vietnamese enterprises in accessing export markets but also play an important role in connecting investment. Through activities to introduce market potential, organize business networking events, as well as support in accessing strategic partners, the Vietnamese trade office system abroad has contributed to promoting capital and technology flows into Vietnam.
In the context of increasingly fierce regional competition, along with strict requirements on environmental standards, labor and social responsibility from investors, the role of trade promotion offices becomes more important. Not only is it a bridge of information, these agencies also help Vietnamese enterprises better understand international standards, market trends and requirements from multinational corporations.

Authorities have organized many programs to connect international supply chains, creating conditions for domestic enterprises to participate more deeply in the global production network.
The European-American Market Department (EU-US Department) has launched an international supply chain connection program in 2025, attracting the participation of many multinational corporations. This program not only helps Vietnamese enterprises access advanced technology but also opens up investment cooperation opportunities, increasing the added value of products.
Accordingly, activities within the framework of the program include seminars, business connection forums, and direct meetings between domestic manufacturers and international partners. Many large corporations in the fields of technology, manufacturing and retail trade have expressed interest in expanding cooperation in Vietnam.
In addition, the program also creates conditions for domestic enterprises to participate more deeply in regional supply chains, taking advantage of opportunities from free trade agreements such as EVFTA and UKVFTA, helping to increase the competitiveness of Vietnamese goods in the international market.
In fact, making good use of the trade promotion network helps Vietnam attract high-quality investment flows, aiming at clean technology, sustainable production and increasing value in the global supply chain. However, to maintain and enhance the efficiency of investment connections, Vietnam needs to continue to improve the business environment, enhance business capacity and human resource quality, in order to better meet international standards and increase competitiveness in the global market.
As a bridge between Vietnamese enterprises and international markets, Trade Promotion Offices have made significant contributions to the development of the country's economy. However, to improve operational efficiency, there needs to be improvements in the way of organization, application of technology and expansion of the scope of business support. In the context of the global economy continuing to have many fluctuations, making good use of the Trade Promotion Office system will be the key to helping Vietnamese enterprises improve their competitiveness and affirm their position in the international market. |
