Hanoi Chinese enterprises will participate in building urban railway line No. 5, 39 km long from Van Cao street to Hoa Lac, with an estimated investment of more than 65,000 billion VND.
On the morning of January 18, the Department of Transport and Pacific Construction Group (China), Vietnam Construction and Import-Export Joint Stock Corporation (Vinaconex) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in research, investment, and construction of a number of key projects in the city.
In the Memorandum of Understanding, the parties concerned agreed to cooperate and share experiences in implementing research on key transport infrastructure projects in Hanoi, focusing on the two projects of Tu Lien Bridge and the investment project to build urban railway line No. 5.
The investment project to build urban railway line No. 5, Van Cao - Ngoc Khanh - Lang - Hoa Lac section has a double-track standard scale, electrification with a length of 38.43 km (including 6.5 km underground, 2 km elevated and 29.93 km above ground), 21 stations and 2 depot areas.
Metro line 5 will run underground through Lieu Giai, Nguyen Chi Thanh, Tran Duy Hung, Ring Road 3 and above ground from Thang Long Avenue. From Hoa Lac intersection (Ring Road 4) to the end of the line in Thach Binh village (Yen Binh commune), metro line 5 will run above ground into the median strip of the planned Hoa Lac - Hoa Binh highway.
Most of the metro length will run between existing roads, the section from Lieu Giai to Tran Duy Hung will run underground in the middle of the road, so it can save costs and time for site clearance. Dozens of kilometers of the project will run above ground on Thang Long Avenue, also located in the middle of the median strip, requiring less bridges and tunnels and not affecting related works, so the construction time will be shortened.
The Van Cao - Hoa Lac Metro Line was approved by the Government in 2011, divided into two phases, 2016-2020 and 2020-2030. However, the implementation period of 2016-2020 has passed, so the goal is to invest in the entire line in the period 2021-2025.
The investment project to build Tu Lien bridge and the road from Tu Lien bridge to Hanoi - Thai Nguyen expressway has a total route length of about 11.5 km, from Nghi Tam intersection to Ring Road 3 intersection (Hanoi - Thai Nguyen expressway). Tu Lien bridge is expected to be 2.924 km long, of which the main bridge is 1 km long, the cross-section scale according to the planning ensures 6 lanes for motor vehicles, 2 mixed lanes and 2 pedestrian lanes. The total investment of the project is about 20,000 billion VND.
According to the plan, Hanoi will have 10 urban railway lines including 9 main lines and one line connecting satellite cities, with a total length of nearly 420 km, of which 75 km will be underground.
Specifically, line 1 Yen Vien - Ngoc Hoi is more than 38 km long; line 2 Nam Thang Long - Tran Hung Dao is 35 km long; line 2A Cat Linh - Ha Dong is 14 km long; line 3 Nhon - Hoang Mai is 48 km long; line 4 Dong Anh - Me Linh is 54 km long; line 5 Van Cao - Hoa Lac is 39 km long; line 6: Noi Bai - Tay Ngoc Hoi is 43 km long, connecting with line 4; line 7 Ha Dong - Me Linh is 35 km long; line 8 Hoai Duc - Gia Lam is 28 km long. Up to now, Hanoi has only completed 13 km of line 2A Cat Linh - Ha Dong and is constructing 12.5 km of line 3 Nhon - Hanoi station section.
