Enterprises actively transform green traffic in the capital

Việt NamViệt Nam12/12/2024

With the rapid increase in urbanization, green transportation is considered a core issue that needs to be solved to achieve the goal of becoming a smart city. Many businesses have made positive changes.

“Smart cities need smart transportation”

According to the Department of Transport in Hanoi, as one of the cities with the highest population and population density in the country, Hanoi's traffic is important in meeting the needs of travel and transporting passengers and goods. However, this is also one of the reasons why air quality and emissions in Hanoi are getting worse day by day.

Therefore, the issue of "greening" Hanoi's traffic is one of the key and core issues that need to be solved to move towards the goal of a green, smart city set by the Government.

“To have a smart city, we need smart transportation,” emphasized Mr. Do Viet Hai, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Transport.

According to data from the Department of Transport, there are currently about 9.2 million vehicles of all types operating in the city . Over the past years, Hanoi has built a transport infrastructure system according to planning, gradually applying science and technology in traffic management and operation.

However, the investment in construction and management of the transport system has not yet met the growing needs of the people. Traffic congestion is becoming more and more complicated, often occurring at intersections with high traffic density, especially during rush hour, affecting the quality of life, causing traffic insecurity, environmental pollution, etc.

“These are major challenges for the city’s traffic management agencies. To solve this problem, we need to apply scientific and technological advances to traffic management and operation,” Mr. Hai emphasized.

Mr. Do Viet Hai, Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Transport, emphasized the importance of green transformation in transportation.

Businesses actively "green" transportation

Based on world experience, the Intelligent Transport System Management and Operation System - ITS is formed through 3 stages, specifically: Formation and consolidation stage; Expansion and development stage; Sustainable development stage.

Based on the city's practical assessment, Mr. Hai said that it is necessary to have the combination and support of 3 large technology corporations, including: VNPT, Viettel, FPT to propose a development roadmap for the city's smart traffic system according to the above 3 phases.

In addition to building a smart transportation system through the application of digital technology, promoting green mobility is one of the most obvious solutions today. Based on this foundation, many businesses have gradually made clear changes from awareness to action, investing in technology to gradually transform green, towards the goal of reducing net emissions to "0".

A typical example is the smart self-driving car at Phenikaa-X. Sharing about this project, Mr. Le Quang Hiep, Commercial Director, said that smart self-driving cars are the future technology trend in the world.

Accordingly, Phenikaa is one of the few self-driving car companies in the world that has reached level 4/5 of self-driving cars, comparable to big brands like Baidu... This unit also integrates self-driving technology into existing vehicles such as 4-wheel electric passenger cars into self-driving cars within the area.

Currently, this project has become a smart means of transportation deployed in some projects in Ecopark (Hung Yen), Son Kim Land projects (District 9, HCMC)... to pick up and drop off customers.

Sharing more about the positive changes to reduce emissions, towards a green economy and smart cities, Ms. Dang Thuy Trang, External Affairs Director of Grab Vietnam, said that the company has recently had solutions to reduce emissions as much as possible.

With this goal, Grab has added some new features such as route suggestions for drivers to take the shortest route, limiting traffic jams. Some vehicles and drivers can participate in many different services from GrabFood (food delivery), to delivery, ... to help reduce travel distance, thereby reducing emissions.

In addition to the experience gained, Ms. Trang believes that in the future, Grab and other businesses in the same field need to aim to test electric motorbikes for delivery, encouraging the conversion of vehicles to electric vehicles. Therefore, in the past, Grab has supported a program for driver partners to borrow to buy electric vehicles with a 0% interest rate from the Youth Startup Support Center - BSSC (under the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union and UNDP).
