According to market research firm eMaker, global e-commerce growth is expected to reach 8.9% in 2023, increasing to 9.4% in 2024. By 2026, growth is expected to remain very high at 8.1% per year and the market size will reach $7.6 trillion.
In particular, the trend of cross-border e-commerce continues to boom in countries around the world, including Vietnam. It is estimated that Vietnam's cross-border retail sales (B2C) in 2026 will reach 11.1 billion USD. B2C e-commerce is forecast to be the 5th strongest export industry in Vietnam by 2027.
Vietnamese businesses have clearly recognized the importance of cross-border e-commerce and have quickly grasped this trend, especially small and medium enterprises.
According to Amazon statistics released in early 2024, within 12 months, up to the end of August 2023, Vietnamese sales partners sold more than 17 million products on Amazon, with export value increasing by more than 50% over the same period last year.
Or like Alibaba.com, in 2023, international customers asking about Vietnamese sellers increased by 36.7% compared to 2022. That means on average every 3 days, Vietnamese businesses will have 1 new customer asking about their products on Alibaba.com.
To increase opportunities for Vietnamese small and medium-sized enterprises when entering the world, on the afternoon of March 11, Alibaba.com launched a smart digital toolkit to enhance export performance called Smart Assistant. This toolkit has been applied in many other markets and proven effective, before being brought to Vietnam by this e-commerce platform.
Through this smart assistant, Vietnamese businesses can optimize product lists, suggest more attractive titles, keywords, and product descriptions; support communication with international customers, automatically reply to messages, and draft professional documents. In particular, it also provides accurate and in-depth market information, customized for each specific industry and based on a rich database...
Lynn Xu, Alibaba.com’s director of commerce product development, said the toolkit can help businesses reduce their reliance on third-party services and eliminate the need for specialized software. Its automated features and comprehensive analytics enable businesses to improve operations, increase conversion rates, and compete on a global scale.
Sharing at the event, Mr. Ngo Trong Nghia, Founder and CEO of Neo Development JSC, said that with the support of this toolkit, Vietnamese businesses will have more opportunities to sell across borders.
“Smart Assistant can analyze the market, target the target customers of businesses, and at the same time strengthen trust between sellers and buyers. That is very important for cross-border e-commerce,” said Mr. Ngo Trong Nghia.
