Domestic enterprise produces 500kV transformers with the largest capacity on the transmission grid

For the first time, a domestic enterprise has successfully designed and manufactured a 500kV transformer with the largest capacity on Vietnam's transmission grid.

On December 16, Dong Anh Electrical Equipment Corporation (EEMC) launched and posted a project sign "Design and manufacture of 500kV transformer - 3x300MVA". This is the 500kV transformer with the largest capacity on Vietnam's transmission grid.

The largest capacity transformer on the transmission grid

Mr. Nguyen Vu Cuong - General Director of Dong Anh Electrical Equipment Corporation - said that based on the development of the 500kV power transmission grid in Vietnam in recent years, transformers with capacity of 3x150MVA and 3x200MVA have been gradually replaced by transformers with capacity of 3x300MVA.

Therefore, EEMC has researched and manufactured 500kV transformers with a capacity of 3x300MVA to master the design and manufacturing technology of large capacity transformers.

This product has been approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology to implement the national pilot production project "Completing the design and manufacturing technology of 500kV-3x300MVA transformer sets".

According to EEMC representative, after implementing many items, from building a 500kV laboratory, upgrading the factory, investing in technological equipment, from September 2024, the MBA production process will be carried out.

Project with close supervision of design engineers, technology to ensure the highest quality.

After completing the manufacturing, the 500kV - 3x300MVA transformer was tested and passed all factory test items according to IEC standards.

Thus, this is the first time a domestic enterprise has successfully designed and manufactured a 500kV transformer with the largest capacity on Vietnam's transmission grid.

The project is the premise for research and development of new products such as: current transformers, voltage transformers, 500kV resistors, clean gas insulated GIS stations, disconnecting switches... to increase the localization rate.

Increase localization rate for electrical equipment

With the policy of increasing localization and domestic production, EEMC has produced many products such as 110kV, 220kV and 500kV transformer voltage products. This helps the Vietnamese electricity industry to proactively invest, prevent overload, reduce imports, help save foreign currency for the country and improve competitiveness.

Mr. Dang Hoang An, Chairman of EVN, said that EEMC's design and manufacturing capabilities have helped 80% of 220kV transformers operate and 50% of 110kV transformers, with a total of 1,100 transformers put into operation on Vietnam's power system, ensuring safety.

In particular, proactively designing 500kV transformers affirms proactive innovation and continuous product research to meet market needs.

With the view of "electricity goes one step ahead", synchronizing power sources and grids, paying attention to research and manufacturing of domestic mechanics and industry plays an important role.

Therefore, Mr. An requested EEMC to expand its product portfolio to meet domestic demand, promote exports, and produce products that meet international standards. Upgrade technological lines, international equipment, and invest in human resources and engineers to contribute to building an independent, self-reliant, and self-reliant economy.

Mr. Truong Thanh Hoai, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, said that the National Assembly passed the Electricity Law, with regulations requiring certain items and equipment to be manufactured in Vietnam. This has both opened up a large market capacity and posed challenges for businesses.

Based on the law, the ministry will submit to the Government for approval a decree to achieve the target of domestically produced items and equipment meeting the demand, along with support in terms of capital and investment resources. At the same time, the ministry will issue a list of equipment items to increase production capacity, because currently a large proportion of equipment serving the electricity industry still has to be imported.

In particular, the upcoming development of new power sources such as offshore wind power, related to national security, so it is expected that all equipment must be produced domestically. Including transformers, step-down transformers, transmission...

Therefore, Mr. Hoai suggested that EEMC focus on research, investment, taking advantage of opportunities and market capacity, increasing efficiency...
