On March 31, 2025, the Long An Provincial Investment Promotion and Local Connection Delegation led by Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van Ut successfully organized the Long An - Japan Investment - Trade Promotion Program at the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan.
Attending the event were Mr. Pham Quang Hieu - Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan; Mr. Nguyen Van Ut - Chairman of Long An Provincial People's Committee; Mr. Vu Hoang Duc - Chairman of Vietnam - Japan Economic Promotion Association, Dr. Nguyen Hong Son - Chairman of the Union of Vietnamese Associations in Japan. The program attracted more than 100 delegates who are leaders of diplomatic agencies, organizations and businesses of the two countries, opening up many opportunities for strategic cooperation between Long An and Japanese partners.
Chairman of Long An Provincial People's Committee - Nguyen Van Ut emphasized that Japan has always been Long An's leading important economic partner, with 161 investment projects in the province, with a total capital of over 1.2 billion USD, ranking fourth in terms of the number of projects and investment capital out of the total number of partners with projects in the province. Not only aiming to attract investment capital, Long An wishes to learn from Japan's advanced development model, applying modern technology to industry, agriculture, urban and administrative management, creating a solid foundation for both sides to develop prosperously and reap long-term success.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Mr. Pham Quang Hieu believes that with the strong commitment from the provincial government and the attention of Japanese investors, the Ambassador will always accompany and commit to be an active bridge, creating favorable conditions for businesses of both sides to connect, exchange information and implement successful projects in Long An.
Within the framework of the Forum, delegates discussed in depth the opportunities for investment and trade cooperation between Vietnam and Japan. Mr. Truong Van Liep - Director of the Department of Finance of Long An province said that Long An is gradually becoming a center for high-tech industrial development in the whole region. With the orientation of sustainable development, the province prioritizes attracting Japanese enterprises in high-tech industries, semiconductor technology, international standard urban areas and golf courses, logistics, commercial centers, high-tech agriculture and renewable energy.
One of the highlights of this program is the signing ceremony of three important cooperation agreements, opening up strategic cooperation opportunities between Long An and Japanese partners. Notably, following the success of Vina Ecoboard's 110 million USD project in Phu An Thanh Industrial Park, Japan's leading forestry group Sumitomo signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate in investing in a cajuput raw material area in the province to provide biomass materials that promise to promote sustainable development in the wood processing and renewable energy industries.
In addition, Prodezi Industrial Park - the largest ecological industrial park in the Mekong Delta with a scale of 400 hectares is gradually realizing a sustainable development model through cooperation with Chitose Group to deploy advanced biotechnology solutions in wastewater treatment, organic fertilizer production, and planting trees using organic hydroponic systems at Prodezi Industrial Park.
Not only stopping at the industrial sector, Long An has also achieved new steps in cooperation in training high-quality human resources, developing tourism combined with high-tech agriculture, transferring biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and healthcare through the letter of intent of the Vietnam - Japan Economic Cooperation Promotion Association given to the Long An Provincial People's Committee to propose investment promotion, connecting and inviting projects to Long An province. These fields are not only suitable for the development orientation of the province but also make the most of Japan's strengths, promising to bring breakthrough projects in the near future.
At the investment connection session, a large Japanese corporation was particularly interested in the waste-to-energy plant project in Thu Thua district. It is expected that in April 2025, the Japanese investor will send a team of experts to Long An to survey and discuss the investment plan in detail.
On the sidelines of the working sessions, the delegation had a private courtesy call with Mr. Pham Quang Hieu - Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan and Mr. Wantanabe Nobuhiro - Former Consul General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City. Both Vietnamese and Japanese diplomatic representatives highly appreciated the investment environment of Long An province, especially the dynamism and practical support policies for Japanese enterprises by Long An provincial leaders.
Mr. Wantanabe Nobuhiro has a lot of affection for the land and people of Long An, and pledged to actively connect and encourage Japanese enterprises to learn and research investment opportunities in the province. At the same time, he also expressed his hope that the provincial leaders would pay attention to establishing cooperative relations with Yamanashi province - his hometown, especially in the fields of industry and high-tech agriculture, which are the strengths of Yamanashi and have great potential for cooperation with Long An province. This cooperation promises to open up many opportunities to promote comprehensive economic cooperation between the two localities.
