The Vietnamese business community hopes to receive information support from heads of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad to expand export markets.
Stories from practice
Sharing at the Dialogue between heads of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad for the 2024-2027 term with associations and enterprises organized by the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the afternoon of November 12, Mr. Le Anh Tuan - Deputy General Director of Hanoi Trading Corporation (Hapro) - shared real stories from enterprises that have recently received active support from heads of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad in expanding export markets.

Specifically, Hapro received support from the Vietnamese Ambassador to Spain during the organization of a trade conference there. The appearance of the Vietnamese Ambassador to Spain at the conference organized by Hapro left a strong impression on local businesses and after the conference, Hapro received a large number of orders from businesses here.
According to Mr. Le Anh Tuan, Hapro has also received support from the Head of the Vietnamese Representative Office in the UAE (United Arab Emirates) in approaching businesses there. That is also the reason why Hapro branded rice products have appeared on supermarket shelves in the UAE market.
Also talking about the support from heads of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad, Mr. Truong Van Cam - Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS) - said: Textile and garment is the industry that employs the most workers with about 3 million workers, and is also a major export industry of Vietnam.
It is expected that by 2024, the total textile and garment industry's exports will reach about 44 billion USD. In 2022, the Prime Minister approved Decision No. 1643/QD-TTg approving the Strategy for the development of Vietnam's textile and garment and footwear industry to 2030, with a vision to 2035. The decision sets a target that by 2030, the textile and garment industry's exports will reach about 68-70 billion USD.
Thus, from not being on the world textile export map, up to now, Vietnam's textile industry has risen to the third position in the world after China and Bangladesh. According to Mr. Truong Van Cam, to achieve the above results, in addition to the benefits from Vietnam's international economic integration process, the support of heads of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad plays a very important role.

Businesses need support with export market information
Appreciating the support of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad in recent times, however, speaking at the Dialogue, representatives of enterprises and business associations still expressed their desire to continue receiving support from Vietnamese representative agencies abroad. Specifically, enterprises want to have information related to export markets, consumer tastes as well as new policies in export markets that can directly affect the export activities of enterprises.
Regarding this content, Mr. Truong Van Cam said: Although the growth has been quite positive in recent times, the textile and garment industry is still weak in terms of self-sufficiency in raw materials and dyeing. Besides, currently, Vietnam's textile and garment exports still depend on some major markets such as the United States (accounting for 44% of exports); EU, Japan, each market accounts for about 11-12% of exports...
“Our goal is to diversify the market, so to exploit it, we need to understand more about consumer tastes, market capacity, products, etc. We really need information on this issue,” Mr. Truong Van Cam proposed to Vietnamese representative agencies abroad.
Meanwhile, according to Mr. Le Anh Tuan, the business conditions and environment in the world are currently experiencing many unpredictable fluctuations. In addition, policies in the markets are also subject to many changes and unpredictable fluctuations, making it easy for businesses to fall into passive situations. Accordingly, information from diplomats is very important and necessary, helping businesses have a basis to assess the situation and come up with appropriate response solutions.
Also hoping to receive support from Vietnamese representative agencies abroad for market information, Mr. Le Quang Trung - Deputy General Director of Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines) - said: There are 3 markets that businesses are looking to approach, including: Greece, China and the Middle East. To penetrate these 3 markets, Vinalines representatives hope that in the coming time, they will receive support for market expansion information, creating favorable conditions for many Vietnamese agricultural products, products produced by Vietnamese enterprises to enter the world market.
Speaking at the seminar, Mr. Hoang Quang Phong - Vice President of the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) - said: The world situation is changing rapidly and unpredictably, the business models of enterprises in that context will also change accordingly. In that context, the Vietnamese business community expects Vietnamese representative agencies abroad to be a bridge to advise and support Vietnamese enterprises in the race in the international arena.
“In addition, the business community also hopes that ambassadors and consuls general who take on new assignments in other countries can continue to research economic development policies of other countries, helping businesses forecast business trends and identify niche markets in each locality,” Mr. Hoang Quang Phong suggested.
In response to the wishes of the business community, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Do Hung Viet, said: All heads of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad, when taking up their missions, are proud because behind them are nearly 100 million Vietnamese people, and at the same time have the responsibility to support the Vietnamese business community to integrate and advance into the international market.
Meanwhile, Ms. Doan Phuong Lan - Director of the Department of Economic Synthesis (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) - affirmed: Supporting businesses is the center of economic diplomacy. In particular, in the work plans of heads of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad, supporting businesses is also a key task.
Sharing at the seminar, heads of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad also emphasized that they will continue to provide information and accompany Vietnamese enterprises in the process of penetrating the area, creating conditions for Vietnamese goods to appear more in many markets around the world.
