Empowering women in the workplace is not only a corporate social responsibility but also contributes to enhancing the competitiveness and brand of the business.

A representative of Nestlé Vietnam, one of the businesses signing the "Declaration in Support of Women's Empowerment Principles" (WEPs), said that signing the WEPs is a testament to Nestlé Vietnam's commitment to promoting gender equality and empowerment, creating conditions for female workers to develop their potential throughout the entire value chain.

Applying WEPs gives employees peace of mind at work, contributing to the sustainable development of this business.

"At Nestlé Vietnam, the principle of gender equality is always respected and realized through actions, policies and human resource development strategies, from recruitment, training plans, promotions, health care, especially creating conditions for female employees to balance work and family. The percentage of women holding leadership positions in the company is 54%", said Le Bui Thi Mai Uyen, Director of Food Products, Nestlé Vietnam.

Ms. Mai Uyen added that for the community, Nestlé also carries out commitments and actions to enhance women's empowerment. Specifically, the program "Nestlé accompanies women" in collaboration with the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union and the NESCAFÉ Plan program.

These programs and commitments are part of the Social pillar of the ESG sustainability initiatives strategy implemented by Nestlé Vietnam over the years.

Phu Nhuan Jewelry Joint Stock Company (PNJ) is also one of the pioneering Vietnamese enterprises to sign WEPs. Currently, PNJ has nearly 400 stores nationwide and more than 7,000 employees, of which more than 60% are female.

Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of PNJ Company Cao Thi Ngoc Dung said that the company has training programs and policies for female employees. In addition, the company also pays great attention to the lives and family circumstances of female employees, implementing a health check-up regime for employees, including screening and examining diseases specific to each gender.

In Vietnam, to date, 181 businesses have signed WEPs, demonstrating their commitment to empowering women in the workplace, in the marketplace and in the community.

The Women's Empowerment Principles are a joint initiative of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) and the UN Global Compact.

WEPs include seven steps that businesses can take to empower women and promote gender equality in the workplace, in the marketplace and in the community. By signing WEPs, businesses will be integrated into a community, a network of more than 8,000 businesses worldwide that practice the principles of women's empowerment, thereby having the opportunity to connect and improve business capacity.

In addition, having a working environment and gender equality policies is a "catalyst" that helps businesses attract employees and promote innovation.
