Officially launched just 6 months after receiving the license to use the 2,600 MHz frequency, Viettel's 5G network at the time of launch had more than 6,500 BTS stations, covering 100% of the capitals of 63/63 provinces, cities, industrial parks, tourist areas, seaports, airports, hospitals, and universities.
Major General Tao Duc Thang, Chairman and General Director of Viettel Military Industry and Telecommunications Group, delivered a speech at the launch of the first 5G network in Vietnam.
Viettel's 5G network can reach speeds of 700Mbps-1Gb, 10 times faster than 4G, and has a latency of almost 0. Viettel's 5G network simultaneously deploys 5G on both 5G NSA (non stand alone) and 5G SA (stand alone) architecture platforms.
The 5G NSA network was successfully deployed by Viettel in 2019, however, 5G SA is the real 5G network and is completely independent of current 4G technology. Compared to the 5G NSA network, in addition to providing high-speed data transmission services, 5G SA also meets the requirement of super low latency, about 1ms, much better than the 5G NSA network and 20 times faster than traditional 4G, helping to provide services that require instant response such as self-driving cars, remote surgery, remote control in smart factories, virtual reality classrooms, etc.
Viettel has developed open APIs (providing data, providing configuration capabilities and interacting with Viettel's 5G network) according to GSMA standards for the application development community in Vietnam and around the world. This helps application developers easily innovate on the Viettel 5G platform.
Viettel also announced 11 prepaid packages and 8 postpaid packages for individual customers. In particular, with 5G Viettel, each customer will have their own digital space, all 5G packages are provided with free Cloud storage and TV360 4K TV viewing service by Viettel. Customers who own 5G-enabled phones can use the service immediately without having to change SIM. To buy 5G Viettel packages, in addition to current channels, Viettel launched a shopping portal at hub.vietteltelecom.vn to help customers easily choose suitable packages according to their own personal needs.
For enterprise customers, Viettel announced more than 130 user cases which are applications and solutions for organizations in the fields of industrial production, smart city, transportation and logistics, agriculture, healthcare, education, and energy. These solutions are tailored to each individual need, integrating cloud, AI, and IoT technologies on the 5G platform with the ability to connect at extremely high density.
Speaking at the event, Major General Tao Duc Thang, Chairman and General Director of Viettel Military Industry and Telecommunications Group, said that from being behind, approaching 2G, 3G, 4G technologies that were popular in the world 8-13 years ago, this is also the first time Vietnam can go hand in hand with the world in applying the latest technology of the 4.0 revolution, becoming one of the earliest countries to successfully test and Viettel is the first network operator to test 5G services in 63 provinces/cities. "A new future of mobile will start today", Chairman Tao Duc Thang emphasized.
With 5G network, Viettel brings Vietnam into the era of smart connectivity.
According to Mr. Thang, by mastering many important core network systems, Viettel has brought Vietnam into the Top 5 first countries to produce 5G network equipment, after Sweden, Finland, China and South Korea.
Meanwhile, Mr. Cao Anh Son, General Director of Viettel Telecom shared: If with 2G Viettel's aspiration is "each person owns a mobile phone"; 4G is "each person owns a smartphone", then 5G will aim for "each person owns a super-fast, super-connected smartphone", applying technology to solve major social problems, contributing to building a digital society, a smart era in Vietnam.
The message of Viettel's 5G network is "New Life" because Viettel believes that 5G will open up new services to serve people, connect people, connect all things, and at the same time create tools/platforms for society to develop together.
Also on October 15, 2024, Viettel celebrated 20 years of officially starting mobile services. After 2 decades, Viettel has created 2 revolutions: popularizing mobile services, increasing mobile penetration from less than 5% in 2004 to over 100% after only 5 years and currently 130%.
