On the morning of August 30, in Can Tho City, the 7th Conference of Industry and Trade of 5 Central Cities took place - 2024, with the theme "Linking trade development to connect supply and demand between 5 cities and provinces in the Mekong Delta".
According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc He, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee, the conference evaluated the results of the implementation of the State management tasks on industry and trade in 2023 and the first months of 2024 and deployed tasks and solutions for 2025. At the same time, it exchanged experiences and discussed new issues arising from development needs and practices of State management and operation of the locality.
From there, create consensus on proposals and recommendations to the Government, the Prime Minister, ministries and central branches to remove difficulties, issue support mechanisms and policies to create conditions for localities to promote their advantages; take advantage of opportunities and challenges in trade activities, in order to promote trade and service growth.
According to the report, the industry and trade sectors of cities in particular and the whole country in general have made efforts and implemented many solutions to support businesses in restoring production associated with restructuring the industrial sector. Industrial production has shown signs of recovery thanks to the Government's support policies, such as: Reducing value added tax contributes to reducing production costs, lowering product prices; Solutions to support businesses to proactively adapt, recover and develop sustainably.
Industry is developing strongly in a modern, intelligent direction, increasing the content of science and technology in products, playing a key role in the economy. Cities prioritize the development of industries and products with high added value, high content of knowledge, science and technology, low environmental pollution, and competitive advantages to meet domestic and export demands.
Accordingly, the total export turnover of the 5 centrally-run cities in the first 6 months of 2024 accounted for 26.5% of the country. Of which, Hai Phong and Ho Chi Minh City had the highest import-export turnover, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City had higher import turnover than export.
Exporting enterprises have strengthened quality and technical control to ensure product quality, gradually meeting export requirements. Seafood processing enterprises have built farming areas, transformed farming models from small-scale to large-scale, concentrated, so they can proactively source raw materials, ensuring a closed process from production, processing to consumption. Exported seafood products meet the strict conditions of the import market and the variety is increasingly diverse.
The industry and trade sectors of the five cities have seriously implemented the policies, resolutions, and innovative viewpoints of the Party and the city. Innovating leadership and direction methods with focus and key points; promptly and effectively resolving arising issues.
At the conference, a number of reports and discussions focused on the current situation and solutions to promote e-commerce development for OCOP products; promote transportation linkage between seaports and logistics...
The key tasks identified here are: Focusing on thoroughly grasping, fully, promptly implementing and concretizing the directive documents of the Government, the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and relevant ministries and branches; Focusing on implementing the Project on restructuring the industry and trade sector until 2030, to successfully implement the Resolution of the 13th National Congress of the Party.
