Regarding local strengths, the five Central Highlands provinces of Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Dak Lak, Lam Dong, and Dak Nong have the advantage of large, fertile lands, suitable for production and development of agricultural and food processing industries such as coffee, tea, rubber, pepper, and vegetables.
For the 6 Central Coast provinces including Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, there are outstanding advantages such as favorable investment attraction, especially the spillover effect of large projects associated with seaports, coastal land fund suitable for industrial development, abundant filling materials, construction materials, and convenient transport infrastructure system.
Delegates attending the conference also discussed the difficulties that have prevented the Central Highlands and Central Coast provinces from attracting large projects, such as most of the enterprises investing in industrial parks and economic zones are mainly small and medium-sized, and have not created a widespread driving force. Infrastructure investment such as border economic zones with Laos and Cambodia has not had much development momentum, and coastal transport infrastructure has not been upgraded and invested properly, etc.
At the conference, delegates recommended that central ministries and branches pay attention to creating favorable conditions and focusing on building a complete infrastructure system to connect the economic regions of the Central Highlands and the Central Coast. Aiming to plan and develop industrial parks, economic zones, high-tech parks and urban areas to become growth nuclei to promote economic and social development of localities in the region, associated with environmental protection and sustainable development, human resource development, and FDI attraction.
