Receiving the delegation from Ho Chi Minh City were Ambassador Tran Van Tuan and officers and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Sweden.

At the meeting, Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Ho Hai thanked Ambassador Tran Van Tuan and the Embassy staff for their enthusiastic cooperation in organizing the program for the delegation right from the initial preparation stages as well as during the delegation's working time in Sweden, contributing significantly to the success of the trip.

The city organized this working trip to affirm its efforts and goodwill in strengthening and deepening the friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between Sweden and Vietnam in general, and Ho Chi Minh City in particular.

Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Ho Hai informed that in the first 9 months of 2023, the City's GRDP increased by 4.5%; budget revenue was over VND 326,000 billion (nearly USD 13.4 billion), contributing about 25% of GDP, 27% of total budget revenue, 25% of export turnover and attracting over 40% of total FDI projects nationwide.

Ho Chi Minh City has just been allowed by the National Assembly to implement Resolution 98 on piloting special and outstanding mechanisms and policies on investment, urban management, resources, environment, science and technology and priority industries; determining the goal of becoming a locomotive in digital economy, digital society, economic, financial, commercial, cultural - educational, scientific - technological center...

Accordingly, Ho Chi Minh City has been implementing many programs such as: Digital transformation program; project to build Ho Chi Minh City into a smart city; project to support the development of the Ho Chi Minh City innovation and startup ecosystem; project to develop the logistics industry; project to develop e-commerce in the city...

The development goal of the City in the coming time is to build a smart city, improve growth quality and economic competitiveness, link economic growth with sustainable development, protect the environment; improve social welfare and quality of life.

Ho Chi Minh City is proud to be one of the leading localities in implementing Swedish cooperation, especially in the fields of innovation, start-ups, environmental protection, climate change response, and waste-to-energy treatment. These are the focuses of this working group.

As arranged by the Embassy, ​​the delegation from Ho Chi Minh City visited Envac Company, a leading company in smart waste collection and renewable energy production in Sweden, as well as worked with the Environmental Protection Agency.

Ambassador Tran Van Tuan informed the delegation of Ho Chi Minh City about opportunities for departments, branches, districts and towns of the city to learn, share experiences and cooperate in investment.

Welcoming the delegation to visit and work at the Embassy, ​​Vietnamese Ambassador to Sweden Tran Van Tuan said that Sweden highly appreciates Vietnam's political stability, development potential demonstrated through Vietnam's economic growth in the context of the pandemic and Vietnam's efforts to achieve green growth, sustainable development, digital transformation, and innovation in line with world trends.

Vietnam, including Ho Chi Minh City, is becoming a promising destination for investment and a large market for Swedish businesses. It is expected that next March, a delegation of CEOs from leading Nordic and Swedish businesses in many fields will come to Vietnam to seek investment and business cooperation opportunities.

In recent times, the Embassy has supported connecting many agricultural producers in Ho Chi Minh City with Swedish distributors; promoting the connection between Gothenburg port and Can Gio port to establish a direct shipping route between Vietnam and Sweden.

To enhance cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and Sweden, the Ambassador suggested that Ho Chi Minh City promote the establishment of a direct flight between Ho Chi Minh City and Sweden as soon as possible. Based on Sweden's strengths as a country with a high level of development in science and technology, the Ambassador suggested that Ho Chi Minh City strengthen cooperation with Sweden in high-tech waste treatment, production of smart medical equipment, modernization of means of transport and 3D printing technology.

Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Ho Hai expected: “In the coming time, in order to promote the long-term friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between Vietnam and Sweden, Ho Chi Minh City will have activities to implement the results of the visit, and send delegations of officials and businesses to Sweden to promote trade, investment, and cooperation. We hope that the Ambassador and the Embassy's staff will pay attention and support so that the City can implement many cooperation contents in the coming time.”
