Contribute to the positive development of the Vietnam - Republic of Austria relationship
In Vienna, the delegation had a working session with Mr. Ernst Woller, President of the Vienna State Parliament.
Giving an overview of Hanoi Capital, Permanent Vice Chairwoman of the City People's Council Phung Thi Hong Ha emphasized: Currently, Hanoi has friendly and cooperative relations with more than 100 cities and capitals of countries; is a member of many prestigious international organizations in the world .
Comrade Phung Thi Hong Ha hopes that on the basis of cooperation between the two countries, the President of the State Parliament will contribute to the Government and the Vienna Capital authorities to further promote cooperation between the two countries and the two capitals in areas of mutual interest.
According to comrade Phung Thi Hong Ha, the positive development of the Vietnam - Austria relationship over the past 50 years has created a foundation to promote cooperation between the two capitals. With great potential for cooperation, the delegation's visit to Vienna this time aims to expand and identify priority areas of cooperation, and concretize the cooperation contents between the two localities in the coming time.
In particular, it is possible to increase contact and delegation exchanges between the two sides. Promote promotion activities, investment, trade, tourism between the two countries and the two cities; specifically, support Vietnamese enterprises in general, Hanoi enterprises in particular, to learn about the situation, needs, trends, market opportunities and conditions to promote trade cooperation activities to promote exports of goods to the Austrian market; organize delegations to survey and exchange experiences in promoting investment, trade and tourism; strengthen cooperation in propaganda and promotion of tourism images of the two countries; organize conferences to promote investment, trade and tourism; exhibit goods, introduce images of Hanoi - Austria in Hanoi and Vienna.
The two sides can research and implement forms and mechanisms for information exchange and experience sharing in the following areas: Urban development, transport infrastructure; smart city construction, science, technology, digital transformation; experience in planning and building local governance policies.

In addition, with a unique and attractive cultural foundation, the two sides need to create conditions to enhance cultural and artistic exchanges; promote people-to-people exchanges, promote culture between the two capitals of Hanoi and Vienna, contributing to the common achievements of the Vietnam - Austria bilateral relationship", emphasized Permanent Vice Chairwoman of the City People's Council Phung Thi Hong Ha.
On this occasion, Permanent Vice Chairwoman of the City People's Council Phung Thi Hong Ha respectfully invites the Chairman of the State Parliament and his colleagues to visit Hanoi in the near future.
Welcoming the Hanoi delegation to visit and work in the capital of Vienna - Republic of Austria, Mr. Ernst Woller - President of the Parliament of Vienna said that Vienna is the capital and also a state of Austria. Austria is one of the first Western countries to establish diplomatic relations and has always strongly supported Vietnam's development orientation.
The President of the Vienna State Parliament said that Vienna is ready to exchange and cooperate with Hanoi in developing urban management, developing social housing, and building smart cities.
Mr. Ernst Woller shared that one of the strengths of the city of Vienna is the development of social housing. Currently, the city of Vienna owns 220,000 social housing units and 62% of the population of Vienna is living in these social housing units.
In addition, over the past 15 years, Vienna has become one of the most livable cities in the world; along with that, Vienna has also been awarded the Lee Kuan Yew Smart City Award, one of the prestigious awards of the Singaporean government.
Mr. Ernst Woller added that from July 2 to 4 this year, Vienna will host the Conference of Mayors of Major Cities in the World. The Vienna City Government has sent an invitation and confirmed that the Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee will attend this event.
Visit and work with the Embassy of Vietnam in the Republic of Austria
The city delegation also visited and worked with the Vietnamese Embassy in the Republic of Austria. Attending and receiving the delegation was Vietnamese Ambassador to the Republic of Austria Vu Le Thai Hoang.
Ambassador Vu Le Thai Hoang said that the friendly relationship between Vietnam and Austria has been very stable in recent times, with a trade turnover of about 3 billion USD. In the coming time, the two sides still have a lot of potential for cooperation, especially Hanoi can cooperate in areas that are Austria's strengths, such as: Science and technology development, railway technology, biotechnology; along with that, it is possible to exchange and cooperate in traffic management, urban management, traffic signal technology, smart traffic; music, culture, tourism, etc.
Ambassador Vu Le Thai Hoang also informed that there are currently about 7,000 Vietnamese expatriates living in Austria, mainly working as salaried employees and small business owners, and the life of our community is quite stable. In the near future, the Embassy is planning to establish a liaison committee for the Vietnamese community throughout Austria to exchange information, cooperate, and help each other develop together.
On behalf of the working delegation, Permanent Vice Chairwoman of the City People's Council Phung Thi Hong Ha sincerely thanked the Vietnamese Embassy in the Republic of Austria for closely coordinating with Hanoi city and supporting the working delegation to successfully implement foreign affairs activities as planned.
He also suggested that the Vietnamese Embassy in Austria continue to pay attention, coordinate, and promote the image of Hanoi to international friends; promote the friendly relationship between Hanoi and Austrian localities, and help Hanoi increase promotion, investment, exchange, and cooperation in various fields.
Working with the Secretary General of the Austria - Vietnam Friendship Association
Next, the Hanoi City Delegation had a working session with Mr. Markus Toyfl, Secretary General of the Austria-Vietnam Friendship Association.
Speaking here, Permanent Vice Chairwoman of the City People's Council Phung Thi Hong Ha emphasized that after more than 50 years of friendly relations, the connection between the two countries has become increasingly strong and constantly strengthened. The bilateral relationship between Vietnam and Austria has developed positively in many fields: Politics - diplomacy, economy - trade, development cooperation, culture, education and tourism.
Comrade Phung Thi Hong Ha highly appreciated the role of the Austria - Vietnam Friendship Association in promoting people-to-people cooperation, creating a sustainable foundation for the relationship between Hanoi and Austrian localities and organizations.
He hoped that the Austria-Vietnam Friendship Association would have many meaningful activities, actively and effectively coordinate, contributing to the relationship between the two countries; at the same time, Hanoi hoped to continue receiving the Association's companionship and support in: Strengthening people-to-people and cultural exchanges; cooperation in the fields of education - training, science - technology, digital transformation, healthcare and environmental protection; connecting businesses, promoting bilateral investment and trade; promoting the image of the friendly and dynamic capital Hanoi to the people of Austria and Europe...
"Hanoi will always be a reliable partner, creating favorable conditions for cooperation programs and initiatives between the two sides to be implemented effectively, substantially and sustainably," affirmed Permanent Vice Chairwoman of the City People's Council Phung Thi Hong Ha.
Welcoming the Hanoi City Delegation to visit and work in the Republic of Austria, Mr. Markus Toyfl, General Secretary of the Austria - Vietnam Friendship Association, said that Vietnam holds a very important position for Austria in Southeast Asia and Asia.
Mr. Markus Toyfl also said that in 2026, the Austria-Vietnam Friendship Association will visit Vietnam and conduct a research project on the relations between Central and Eastern European countries and Vietnam, focusing on the relations in the fields of politics, economics and culture. The Austria-Vietnam Friendship Association is always aware of the long-standing traditional relationship between the two countries and will actively promote the image of Vietnam as well as the capital Hanoi to the Austrian people and international friends.
The visit and working session in the Republic of Austria by the Hanoi delegation was a great success. The delegation established many new relationships, affirming Hanoi's position in the eyes of international friends. The results achieved from this visit will be recognized and continued to be promoted in the coming time, in order to further promote the cooperative relationship between Hanoi and localities in the Republic of Austria, bringing practical benefits to both sides.
