Hanoi delegation successfully concluded working visit to New Zealand and Australia

* In New Zealand, the delegation worked with the Council, the Wellington Capital Authority, and the city's professional agencies on planning, planning management; mechanisms and policies to promote economic development; social welfare and environmental protection. The delegation visited and worked with the Vietnamese Embassy in New Zealand; and met with Vietnamese and New Zealand businesses.

Welcoming and working with the delegation in New Zealand were Ms. Tory Whanau, Mayor of Wellington City, and Vietnamese Ambassador to New Zealand Nguyen Van Trung.

At the working sessions, Chairman of the City People's Council Nguyen Ngoc Tuan introduced the socio-economic development situation; Hanoi 's development orientations as well as the potentials and strengths of a number of priority sectors and fields for investment attraction; projects in sectors and fields with advanced technology, innovation, processing and manufacturing industries with spillover effects and high added value, clean energy, renewable energy, sustainable development, etc.

Comrade Nguyen Ngoc Tuan suggested that the two capitals continue to increase the exchange of high-level delegations; the two city authorities establish information channels, connecting businesses, investors, organizations, and universities of Wellington and New Zealand to Hanoi to explore opportunities for investment, trade, tourism , and cooperation; promote scholarship programs for Vietnamese students to study abroad; and promote people-to-people exchanges through tourism development cooperation, art, and cultural exchanges.

In particular, the two sides promote cooperation in the fields of cultural industry, innovation, and experience sharing in the creative cities network of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), of which Hanoi and Wellington are both members.

Chairman of the City People's Council Nguyen Ngoc Tuan also suggested that the Vietnamese Embassy in New Zealand continue to be a bridge to promote friendly cooperation between Hanoi and localities of New Zealand.

On this occasion, Comrade Nguyen Ngoc Tuan invited the Mayor of Wellington to visit and work with Hanoi city, and at the same time suggested that the two sides consider signing a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the two capitals for the next phase.

On behalf of the Wellington government, Mayor Tory Whanau expressed his joy and appreciation for the working visit of the Hanoi city delegation.

According to Ms. Tory Whanau, over the 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations (1975-2025), the relationship between Vietnam and New Zealand has continuously developed and increasingly become a leading important partner in the region.

In particular, the two countries' official upgrading of their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon's visit to Vietnam (February 2025) marked an important milestone, opening a period of deeper, more comprehensive and effective cooperation between the two sides.

Mayor Tory Whanau affirmed that Wellington is always ready and willing to cooperate and share experiences with Hanoi on issues of mutual concern. The two city governments assigned the foreign affairs agencies of both sides to continue researching, reviewing and proposing cooperation contents in the next phase, deepening the good relationship between the two capitals.

* In Australia, the Hanoi delegation visited and worked with the New South Wales Senate; worked with the Canberra Government; visited the Victorian Parliament and worked with the Victorian House of Representatives; worked with the Vietnamese Entrepreneurs Association in Australia; attended the Conference "Promoting Investment, Trade and Tourism between Hanoi and Australia 2025" and worked with the Vietnamese Embassy in Australia and the Vietnamese Consulate General in Sydney.

Welcoming and working with the delegation were Mr. Rodney John Roberts, Deputy President of the Senate of New South Wales; Ms. Maree Edwards, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Victoria; Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia Pham Hung Tam...

Working with Australian agencies, Chairman of the City People's Council Nguyen Ngoc Tuan expressed his wish to continue promoting the good friendship, enhancing business connection activities, promoting investment, trade, tourism, education and training between Hanoi and Australian localities; hoping that Australian agencies will continue to have policies of interest and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community living, studying and working in Australia.

The two sides also exchanged and shared information on the structure, organization, and model of the three-level government; experiences in building and promulgating mechanisms and policies for economic development, planning, urban management, environment, transportation, culture, society, and monitoring activities of elected agencies...

The two sides agreed to promote delegation exchanges at all levels and enhance cooperation in the fields of investment, trade, tourism, education and training, and culture; and consider signing an official cooperation agreement between the two capitals of Hanoi and Canberra.

In particular, the Conference "Promoting Investment, Trade and Tourism between Hanoi and Australia 2025" was successfully held with the participation of many leaders and more than 120 Australian businesses and investors.

At this conference, comrade Nguyen Ngoc Tuan emphasized the strong development of the Vietnam - Australia relationship, especially after the two countries upgraded their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership and affirmed Hanoi's commitment to improving the investment environment, with the goal of economic growth reaching 8% or more.

At the conference, the delegation witnessed the signing ceremony of memorandums of understanding and cooperation agreements between Hanoi and Australian businesses.

The visit and working trip to Australia by the Hanoi delegation was a success. The delegation established many new relationships, affirming Hanoi's position in the eyes of international friends. These activities will be a solid foundation for the next steps in the development of Vietnam - New Zealand and Vietnam - Australia relations, while affirming the spirit of solidarity, cooperation and sustainable development between localities in the context of international integration.
