On the afternoon of March 5, the working delegation of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Vietnam led by Mr. Matthew Jackson, Chief Representative of the United Nations Population Fund in Vietnam, had a working session with the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province on the activities of projects and models on elderly care and support for vulnerable groups deployed in the province.

Accompanying the delegation were representatives of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly; the International Elderly Assistance Organization (HAI); and the United Nations Population Fund (UN) in Vietnam.
Receiving and working with the delegation was comrade Dau Thanh Tung, Provincial Party Committee member, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.
At the working session, the delegation listened to the sharing from departments, agencies and sectors of Thanh Hoa province about activities with technical support from the United Nations Population Fund: the pilot model of integrated care for the elderly in the community and the activities of the Sunshine House.
Director of Thanh Hoa Social Work Service Center (Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs) reported on the performance of the Sunshine House model.
Established since 2021, through a series of communication and training activities, with the provision of services at one point - one focal point, Anh Duong House has made an important contribution to raising awareness and changing the behavior of the community in accessing and using the services of the house. Building a team of staff with knowledge, skills, and professional support services. At the same time, mobilizing the participation of all levels and sectors, promptly and synchronously resolving, maximally meeting the needs of victims of violence.
Thanh Hoa Provincial Elderly Association proposed to continue implementing the integrated and long-term care model for the elderly, while increasing funding for project activities to bring about higher efficiency.
Regarding the results and impacts of the pilot model of integrated care for the elderly in the community, funded by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) through the International Organization for Supporting the Elderly in Vietnam, HelpAge International (HAI), the project "Promoting social protection and comprehensive and integrated care for the elderly to adapt to population aging" (referred to as Project VIE091) was piloted in Dong Phu commune (Dong Son) and Quang Phu ward (Thanh Hoa city).
After 4 months of implementing the model, from the families of the elderly who were always hesitant to receive support from the project, now the families have become open and proactive with the companionship of the care volunteers. The elderly who are cared for are happier, have better spirits, and their health is improving; reducing the pressure of caring for the elderly who are sick for a long time for the elderly's family...

At the meeting, delegates discussed with leaders of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee and relevant departments, agencies and sectors about the possibility of expanding the pilot activities in 2024 and some support activities for Anh Duong House in 2024; shared some recommendations for the province to promote the care of the elderly as well as protect victims of violence...

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Dau Thanh Tung acknowledged, highly appreciated and thanked the cooperation and support of the United Nations Population Fund in Vietnam (UNPFA) for Thanh Hoa province in implementing projects and models on elderly care and assistance to vulnerable groups. These activities have contributed to ensuring social security in Thanh Hoa province.
In the coming time, the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province requests the United Nations Population Fund in Vietnam (UNPFA) and HAI to continue to pay attention, support, cooperate and implement social security projects in Thanh Hoa province. The People's Committee of the province commits to support and create the best conditions for activities and projects by the United Nations Population Fund in Vietnam (UNPFA) to be deployed and implemented smoothly.
He requested relevant departments, branches and units, based on their assigned functions and tasks, to advise the Provincial People's Committee to receive, deploy and effectively carry out activities and support projects from the UN Population Fund in Vietnam in accordance with their authority and legal regulations, aiming to replicate projects and models to bring the best benefits to the people.
