According to Apple analyst Jeff Pu, the iPhone 17 Air will be thinner than the iPhone 6 and will become Apple's thinnest iPhone ever.
The iPhone 17 Air is predicted to be Apple's thinnest iPhone ever, with a thickness of just 6mm, breaking the record of the iPhone 6 at 6.9mm. However, achieving this thinness will be a major challenge for Apple engineers, especially as the company is struggling with the battery substrate in the device.

The iPhone 17 Air will be three-quarters thinner than any iPhone 16 or 16 Pro model. Some customers expect the device to be even thinner, however this is unlikely due to the limitations on the thickness of the battery and other components.
Even if the iPhone 17 Air reaches a thickness of 6mm, it will still be an incredibly thin and light iPhone compared to the increasingly bulky models released in recent years.
Earlier this year, Apple also launched the iPad Pro M4 with an OLED display, in which the 13-inch version is only 5.1 mm thick, making it the company's thinnest device to date.
There are also many conflicting rumors about the design and specifications of the iPhone 17 Air, but most sources suggest the device will have a 6.6-inch screen.
In July 2024, Apple supply chain analyst Ming Chi Kuo stated that he expected the device to feature the standard A19 chip, Dynamic Island, a single rear camera, and an Apple-designed 5G modem.
Many other experts expect the device to feature an aluminum frame, Face ID, a 24-megapixel front camera, a 48-megapixel rear camera, along with 8GB of RAM and Apple Intelligence.
Apple may release the iPhone 17 Air in September 2025. Therefore, all current rumors are not entirely accurate and may change over time.
