Apax Leaders currently has only 2 centers licensed to operate by the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City.
On December 29, Apax English Joint Stock Company (Apax Leaders) continued to send an apology letter to parents and students at the centers for not being able to fulfill the promised payment schedule in early November. The document was signed and sealed by Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thuy (Shark Thuy), General Director of Apax Leaders, today.
Previously, according to the old schedule, Apax Leaders promised to pay 5% of the remaining amount to parents on December 31. On April 28, 2024, the company will pay another 5% of the total outstanding amount. Finally, from July 30, 2024, Apax Leaders promised to pay 5% of the remaining amount to all parents every month until the end, but did not specify a fixed payment date.
However, just 2 days before the first tuition refund was due to begin, Apax Leaders suddenly announced a new announcement, wanting to postpone the date. Specifically, the company explained that the current situation has many unexpected difficulties, causing the centers to be unable to operate. This leads to the tuition refund plan for parents not being able to be implemented as committed.
"More than ever, Apax earnestly desires to resume operations to build the most effective educational and teaching environment for students... The Board of Directors is looking for ways to perfect the handling plan. On January 9, 2024, Apax will send parents an updated refund plan," the document stated.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thuy (in white shirt) informed parents in Ho Chi Minh City in April about the tuition refund roadmap. Up to now, Apax Leaders has changed the payment plan twice.
So, instead of receiving the 5% tuition fee owed before the New Year, parents will now have to wait until early January to know when they will be paid. Many people after hearing the news could not hide their anger. "Shark Thuy only makes empty promises, year after year", "No one accepts but keeps making promises, making up their own stories"... are the complaints of Apax Leaders parents in a community group gathering nearly 1,000 people.
The controversy between Apax Leaders and parents in Ho Chi Minh City began in November 2022. At that time, many parents accused the centers of not ensuring quality, closing down without permission, and Apax Leaders repeatedly broke their promise to refund tuition fees and then cut off contact. It was not until early April that the company officially finalized a payment schedule with parents, but the tuition fee issue is still lingering to this day.
The Office of the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency in Ho Chi Minh City and the Economic Police Department, Ho Chi Minh City Police have also received hundreds of complaints against Apax Leaders from parents. On the service information page of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, currently only Phan Xich Long and Him Lam (District 6) are licensed to operate, while 39/41 other centers are suspended, of which one has been dissolved.
