Teaching hours and annual leave for principals and vice principals

The teaching hour norms and annual leave time of principals, vice principals and teachers are stipulated in Circular 05/2025/TT-BGDDT regulating the working regime for teachers teaching at generaleducation institutions and university preparatory schools, effective from April 22.

According to regulations, in addition to leadership and management duties, principals and vice principals of general schools and university preparatory schools must teach a number of lessons in the educational program to grasp the content, objectives of the educational program and the learning situation of students in order to improve the effectiveness of leadership and management work.

The teaching hours per school year are determined as follows:

In which, the number of teaching weeks is the number of weeks teaching educational content in the general education program (excluding the number of reserve weeks).

Average teaching hours per week:

a) Principal is 2 periods;

b) Vice Principal is 4 periods.

Principals and vice principals are not allowed to convert the reduced teaching hour quota regime for concurrent positions.

5. When teaching enough teaching hours, the principal and vice principal may apply the regulations on Converting other professional activities into teaching hours to calculate the total number of teaching hours when calculating the number of extra teaching hours (if any).

Annual leave of principal and vice principal:

a) Annual leave of the principal and vice principal includes summer vacation; holidays, Tet and other holidays as prescribed by the Labor Code and the Law on Social Insurance;

b) The summer vacation of the principal and vice principal is flexibly arranged during the school year and during the summer vacation of teachers to ensure that school activities take place normally and ensure the completion of work tasks convened by management agencies at all levels (if any). The summer vacation schedule of the principal and vice principal must be reported to the competent management agency or according to decentralization.
