Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung shared at the working session

Attending the meeting were Deputy Minister Pham Duc Long, Deputy Minister Phan Tam and all key leaders of units under the Ministry of Information and Communications.

The working session took place in an open atmosphere, full of inspiring sharing revolving around interesting discussions from leaders of units with Minister Nguyen Manh Hung on the development orientation of the IT&T industry and sector on the occasion of the new year 2025.

The IT industry needs to promote its values in the new era.

At the meeting, Minister Nguyen Manh Hung said that Vietnam is one of the first countries in the world to issue a national digital transformation program, making Vietnam a country with digital transformation awareness, on par with advanced countries. Vietnam's cross-border social network management is also highly appreciated by the world.

With the results and efforts in the past time and in 2024, the Minister affirmed: "The Information and Communications Industry needs to promote values in the new era and Vietnam can be completely confident in digital competition when most of the Industry's management areas can be measured".

The Minister also pointed out a number of issues that leaders of units need to pay attention to. State management work must be mapped from real life situations, such as people being scammed by text messages or having to wait too long at red lights when the road is empty... it is necessary to research and solve these stories using technology.

According to the Minister, from specific things, we generalize to things with great vision; from general things, we map them to daily work; map state management to the daily life of each family. The world is experiencing the greatest shift of humanity, which is moving from the real world to the digital world. And from there, many stories that have not been solved for many years can now be solved by technology, IoT.

Focus on the core values of publishing

Regarding the concerns of the leaders of the Department of Publishing, Printing and Distribution about the opportunities and challenges from artificial intelligence (AI) for the Publishing industry, Minister Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized the importance of protecting and promoting the core values of the industry.

The Minister said that AI cannot replace human creativity, but if used properly, AI will become a powerful support tool, bringing high efficiency to publishing activities.

Conference Overview

The Minister cited the story of the relationship between journalism and social media as an example. When social media exploded, with diverse and abundant sources of information, users tended to update news through these platforms. However, over time, information saturation, the rise of fake news and unverified news have made readers return to journalism - a place that always upholds the core values of transparency, verification and objectivity. This has been clearly demonstrated during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Therefore, publishing needs to continue to uphold traditional values, while using AI as a supporting tool to solve the industry's problems. Only by remaining steadfast in its core values can publishing adapt and develop sustainably in the new era.

Need to focus on developing Vietnamese brand on cyber security

Regarding the field of Information Security (IS), according to the Minister, in order to expand the space and increase the market share of domestic IS products and services, it is necessary to issue sets of synchronous criteria to evaluate the level and quality of products that are equivalent and on par with the world.

In addition, in addition to international common standards, the field of information security needs "tailored" Vietnamese standards. Creating specific standards not only creates sustainability for the country but also creates conditions for Vietnamese businesses to develop," the Minister emphasized.

According to the Minister, Vietnam's information security sector has a high ranking and is considered a prerequisite for digital transformation. Therefore, we should take advantage of this to develop the Vietnamese brand of cyber security in the international market.

The Vietnamese digital technology market is currently extremely competitive thanks to good products and low costs. Therefore, it is necessary for Vietnamese digital technology enterprises to quickly seize opportunities and take advantage of going abroad to both compete and test products, while also bringing themselves certain opportunities and competitive advantages. Currently, the number of Vietnamese cyber security and safety enterprises developing in the international market is still small, so this opportunity should be taken advantage of to develop in the coming time. In particular, it is necessary to set goals and strive to achieve 30% domestic revenue and 70% foreign revenue - the Minister commented.

Along with that, the IT security sector needs to identify core enterprises with large scale and competitive capacity to assign tasks and projects and focus on implementing national goals, developing the country.

Bringing Vietnamese knowledge to the world

Regarding the field of education and training, Minister Nguyen Manh Hung pointed out 5 important strategic directions for the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) to promote international cooperation in the coming time: Sending graduates to work abroad; exporting learning materials; attracting international students to Vietnam; expanding training facilities abroad; promoting exchanges of expertise and lecturers with other countries.

According to the Minister, Vietnamese engineers and experts working in enterprises and R&D centers abroad not only help access advanced working processes but also solve the problem of high income. However, efforts must be made to master technology so that knowledge belongs to oneself. The Minister emphasized the spirit of "technological self-reliance" according to Resolution No. 57 of the Politburo, aiming for the goal of autonomy in applying and mastering technology.

Regarding knowledge export, the Minister particularly emphasized the potential of online training. Although exporting learning materials to advanced countries may be difficult, the opportunities in more than 100 countries that are lacking in higher education resources and learning conditions are enormous. "This is the door for PTIT and Vietnam to expand their influence and contribute to the development of humanity through education," the Minister commented.

The Minister also affirmed Vietnam's role in contributing to the world. From a country that once received international assistance, Vietnam has risen strongly, becoming an active part in maintaining peace and promoting global development. The Minister believes that educational institutions, including PTIT, should strive to solve the problem of bringing Vietnamese knowledge to the world, especially through online training, to support poor countries and contribute to improving human knowledge. "Performing this task well is the way Vietnamese education contributes to the sustainable development of humanity," the Minister affirmed./.
