Vietnam Post Corporation has just announced that it is testing anonymous calls in Hanoi.

With the trial of call identification in Hanoi, in addition to calls from Vietnam Post's switchboard, currently all calls from post office staff and Vietnam Post postmen in the capital when contacting customers display the caller name as "VietNamPost".

To identify calls to customers, Vietnam Post's postmen in Hanoi are required to make calls via the DingDong application, while post office staff will make calls via the PacknSend software.

In a preliminary assessment of the call identification test, Vietnam Post said that the benefits for service users are increased security and reduced cases of people impersonating postmen, employees or Vietnam Post switchboards calling to notify of delivery in order to defraud and appropriate customers' assets.

As for Vietnam Post, call identification with the support of DingDong and PacknSend software is a technology application solution that helps optimize telecommunication costs compared to conventional mobile switchboards.

In addition, outgoing calls from the postman's application or the post office's software will be associated with specific mail items, with clear recordings, creating convenience in order management and handling customer complaints and problems more quickly, promptly and transparently.

Vietnam Post plans to both test and evaluate the effectiveness and limitations of the call identification solution for postmen and post office delivery staff, and then consider expanding the deployment across the entire network.

Previously, the Ministry of Information and Communications and network operators used the identifier - Brandname for phone numbers that interact with people. Specifically, from mid-October 2023, all phone numbers calling people from units under the Ministry of Information and Communications including the Ministry Office, the Department of Telecommunications, the Department of Radio Frequency, the Department of Press, and the Department of Information Security will display the identifier "BO TTTT".

Calls from telecommunications companies to customers using the service also display the business's identifier. For example, the identifier FPT SHOP of FPT network; LOCAL of ASIM network; VIETTELCSKH of Viettel network; or VNPT, VinaPhone of VinaPhone network.

The impersonation of agencies, organizations, and businesses to defraud users has been quite common in recent times. Many subjects have used both fixed and mobile phone subscribers to impersonate officials and employees of functional agencies, telecommunications networks, and businesses to commit fraud in order to steal information and appropriate people's property.

Deploying call identification is one of the solutions to prevent impersonation and fraud by users.

At the time of announcing the Ministry of Information and Communications and network operators identifying calls to people, the Department of Telecommunications also recommended: "When receiving calls from fake phone numbers, people need to report to the numbers receiving reports on spam calls and calls with signs of fraud of the Ministry of Information and Communications, which are 156, 5656, or report to the telecommunications business managing their subscribers to request handling."

Experts also believe that call identification needs to be expanded to many agencies, organizations and businesses, especially those that provide services to a large number of users. This solution will help limit the impersonation of agencies, organizations and businesses.

Call identification needs to be expanded to many agencies and businesses . It is believed that call identification will help limit the impersonation of agencies and organizations, but experts also believe that to be effective, the number of units attaching brand names to phone numbers needs to be the majority.
