Many days have passed but until now, teachers, friends and many people in Ha Tinh still cannot forget the moment of excitement waiting for the live broadcast of the International Chemistry Olympiad award ceremony in Switzerland. And then, the joy exploded when the name of Vietnam - Dinh Cao Son was announced in the gold medal category. The image of the Ha Tinh boy with the national flag in his hand stepping up to the podium of honor quickly spread across the mass media, becoming a beautiful, emotional, honorable and proud image of the people in the studious homeland.

To welcome the “golden boy” back to his hometown, representatives of the Department of Education and Training of Ha Tinh, teachers, family and relatives of the boy traveled more than 300 km to Noi Bai International Airport. At home, many teachers and students of Ha Tinh High School for the Gifted also “braved the sun” to welcome the owner of the International Chemistry Olympiad gold medal.

Dinh Cao Son returned to his hometown in the warm welcome of provincial leaders, in the arms of his family, teachers, and many friends of Ha Tinh Specialized High School.

Mr. Nguyen Cong Hoan - Principal of Ha Tinh High School for the Gifted could not hide his joy: “The gold medal of the International Chemistry Olympiad of Dinh Cao Son is truly a priceless gift that he gives to his family, school, the education and training sector, his homeland and country. This glory comes from his talent, intelligence, determination and aspiration to conquer the pinnacle of knowledge. This is also the result of the passion, dedication and creativity for the profession and for the students of the team of teachers of Ha Tinh High School for the Gifted - those who have accompanied him on the arduous journey to conquer the pinnacle of knowledge”.

Returning to the warm welcome of his homeland, the warm affection of his teachers and friends at his beloved school, Son's fatigue after a long journey seemed to disappear. Son's tireless efforts throughout his journey to conquer knowledge have "blossomed and borne fruit".

“The gold medal at the International Chemistry Olympiad is the result of a journey of personal efforts and the care of teachers, family and school. However, this is just the beginning and in the journey to conquer the challenges in the future, I still have to try harder,” Dinh Cao Son shared.

Son is the eldest of two children, his parents are self-employed in Nguyen Du Ward - Ha Tinh City. Although life is difficult, Son and his siblings always receive the attention and encouragement of their parents in their studies as well as in life. For Son, family is the first school of the will to succeed in life.

Ms. Cao Thi Quynh Nga - Son's mother shared: "To create conditions for our child to study, we always spend time following every step of our child. However, my parents do not put any pressure or burden on our child in studying, but only know how to trust, encourage and motivate him to constantly try. With the awareness of self-study, self-training and determination to achieve his goals, Son has made constant efforts every day. Today's achievement is a reward for his tireless efforts, the family is very happy and proud."

From the love of his parents and the care of his teachers, Son's talent was nurtured and nurtured. When he was a student at Tran Phu Primary School, he participated and won many high prizes in knowledge competitions. "Falling in love" with Chemistry in grade 8, from the teachings of his teachers, each lesson and each experiment helped Son discover more interesting things about chemical substances, so he was constantly attracted, fascinated and passionate about this subject. After becoming the top student in the provincial Chemistry competition in grade 9 and becoming a student in the Chemistry specialized class - Ha Tinh Specialized High School with the top entrance award, Son continued his passion for the subject by learning and researching exam formats.

With the training and education of the teachers of Ha Tinh High School for the Gifted, Son gradually conquered the set goals with proud marks such as: valedictorian of the provincial Chemistry Olympiad in grade 10; second prize in the national Chemistry Olympiad in grade 11; valedictorian of the national Chemistry Olympiad, valedictorian of the national Chemistry team selection exam. Those achievements are the motivation and belief for him to reach the golden dream in the international arena.

During more than 2 months of training the team to participate in the international competition, Son had to go through 55 theory lessons and nearly 50 practice sessions under the guidance of leading professors and doctors. Carrying knowledge, love and expectations of the whole country to Europe, Dinh Cao Son overcame the psychological pressure to confidently complete his exams.

In my opinion, the theoretical part of this year's International Chemistry Olympiad exam was quite long and difficult, which made me feel overwhelmed in the first few minutes. However, Son quickly regained his composure to conquer the test. Also in this year's International Chemistry Olympiad, the practical part was included in the exam content after 3 years of interruption due to the pandemic, this is also considered a big challenge for Vietnamese candidates. However, with the knowledge he has learned and accumulated, with determination for the national flag and his own dream, Son performed well in the practical part with a result of 87%. 10 hours in 2 days of challenge, the brainpower, talent, intelligence and courage of Dinh Cao Son shone.

Surpassing himself in the international arena, Dinh Cao Son won the gold medal with a convincing victory with the leading score of the Vietnamese delegation and ranked 7th out of 348 candidates from 89 countries and territories. The achievements of Son and his teammates (3 gold medals, 1 silver medal) also contributed to helping the Vietnamese delegation continue to maintain its position in the top group of the IChO exam, ranking 3rd in the whole delegation in terms of the number of gold medals, 2 students were in the top 10 candidates with the highest scores.

Happy and proud of the results of his "favorite" student, Mr. Hoang Van Nam - head teacher of the Chemistry team of Ha Tinh High School for the Gifted shared: "As someone who is close to and has accompanied him throughout the training and revision process, what I admire most about Son is his will, effort and determination to achieve the set goals. Many times, seeing him diligently and passionately forgetting to eat and sleep to accumulate knowledge, I was really worried but could only encourage and motivate him. And the results he achieved were wonderful."

The story and image of the young man from the land of Ha Tinh with the red flag with yellow star on the podium of honor at the international arena will forever be a source of inspiration, adding faith, hope and giving wings to dreams for many generations of Ha Tinh students.
