"Drawing" a royal dream

MSc. Tran Hai Nguyen - Director of a life skills training company - calls this a "billionaire trap" when scammers prey on the psychology of making money without doing anything, doing little but making a lot of money.

"The scammers manipulate psychology with sweet words, portraying the scene of money coming easily, causing the desire for wealth or laziness to arise. Many children accept dropping out of school, leaving home, even abandoning their siblings, parents... to chase after the dream of royalty," shared Master Hai Nguyen.

The tricks advertised by the subjects are all "winged" invitations, attracting young people such as: Easy work, high salary, work only 2-3 hours/day and receive salary... 7 - 10 million VND/month, receive commission of 30-60%, introduce others to sell products and receive money...

Mr. Nguyen listed a series of fraudulent activities targeting students today, especially at the beginning of the school year and during holidays such as: Collaborators wrapping gifts at home, closing online orders, recruiting people to comment on products, typing documents, renting a house, buying cheap train and bus tickets... Behind that, the subjects defraud and lure workers to appropriate property.

Lost both the fish and the net.

In fact, many students have "fallen into the trap" of scammers, losing several million, even tens or hundreds of millions of dong.

MSc. Tran Hai Nguyen warned that this will lead to a series of dangers. The psychology of students is not yet stable, so when they encounter traps, many of them are confused, scared, and lose themselves.

"After being cheated out of money, some children accept to continue cheating others to get back the money they lost, some continue to fall into other traps such as mortgages, theft... From this trap, they fall into another trap," Mr. Nguyen shared.

Students need to acquire more knowledge and skills to identify scams (Photo: Huyen Nguyen).

Mr. Nguyen pointed out that there are many different types of scams that have been warned about in the press, but students rarely update their knowledge.

"The traps of part-time jobs, boarding houses... have been mentioned a lot in the press, but students do not read them. When they are deceived and learn a painful lesson, they then go looking for them, and the consequences are already there. However, students must clearly understand the nature so as not to be deceived next time," said Master Nguyen.

Therefore, he advises young people to be alert and equipped with knowledge to avoid pitfalls that can ruin their lives.

According to life skills experts, the telltale sign of a scam is that most job postings require very simple skills: No experience, no probation, no qualifications... but the income is "sky high".

Another identifying point is not providing address or work unit name, just leaving phone number or message.

When coming to fill out the application, the recruiter offers customers incentives such as early payment of fees will get many promotions, deposit for uniforms, work equipment, deposit for goods...

Another telltale sign is that the main job assigned to the staff is to focus on attracting more people to join their multi-level marketing system.

"Fraudulent forms will be constantly renewed. Therefore, students need to grasp the characteristics and notable signs to avoid being scammed. Normally, if large, reputable companies are recruiting, there will be information on the official website, with agreed hours, job requirements and reasonable salaries," said life skills expert Tran Hai Nguyen.

Ms. Vo Ho Thu Tien - Head of Student Affairs Department, Dai Viet Saigon College - said that through extracurricular specialized programs, the school helps students equip themselves with the necessary knowledge and skills to avoid fraud traps.

"Always live life to the fullest to explore life and pursue your passion. However, you also need to know when to stop in the face of temptations or scams that are always lurking in today's society. There are doors that lead to mistakes and it is very difficult to overcome the consequences," said Ms. Thu Tien.
