The largest enterprises in Vietnam are being led by CEOs born in the years of Nham Ty, Giap Dan, Binh Thin, Dinh Ty... Most of them are experienced and courageous businessmen, however, the trend of younger leaders has also appeared.
Generational diversity in leadership
Statistics on CEO age of enterprises in the Top 500 largest enterprises in Vietnam (VNR500) of Vietnam Report show that the number of CEOs born in the years of Ngo, Dan, Ty, and Tuat accounts for the largest proportion, at 15.6%, 15.3%, 14.8%, and 14.5%, respectively. In terms of the sexagenary cycle, the number of CEOs born in the year of Nham Ty (1972) is the largest, accounting for 5.8%; followed by Giap Dan (1974), Binh Thin (1976), and Dinh Ty (1977), each accounting for 5.3%.
It can be seen that many CEOs of large enterprises in the VNR500 rankings this year come from the 7X generation. This is the generation that studied in an open environment, when the country was at peace and began to learn more from Western countries. In the era of innovation, they have access to modern information technology, favorable conditions thanks to international trade policies. At the same time, they also have the advantage of more experience in business and management than the next generation.
According to Vietnam Report, the number of CEOs under 40 years old in Vietnam accounts for about 10.8%, much lower than the number of CEOs from 41 to 50 years old (41.1%) and from 51 years old and above (48.1%). However, this rate has increased compared to previous years.
In fact, the age of 45 and above is often considered the successful age of Vietnamese entrepreneurs, with the full accumulation of knowledge, courage, leadership experience and necessary business network. Meanwhile, the increase in the number of CEOs under 40 years old shows that businesses are gradually transforming and welcoming young, creative leaders who adapt quickly to the modern business environment. This reflects the trend of diversifying and rejuvenating leadership in the Vietnamese business community today.
Of the total 12.9% of Snake-year entrepreneurs listed in this year's VNR500 rankings, 2.3% of CEOs were born in the year of the Snake.
Some typical VNR500 business leaders born in 1965 include: CEO Han Ngoc Vu (Vietnam International Commercial Joint Stock Bank), CEO Le Quoc Long (Southeast Asia Commercial Joint Stock Bank), CEO Pham Van Tai (Truong Hai Group Joint Stock Company), CEO Tran Tuc Ma (Traphaco Joint Stock Company), CEO Pham Thi Thanh Huong (Binh Dinh Pharmaceutical - Medical Equipment Joint Stock Company), CEO Pham Thi Xuan Huong (OPC Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company)...
Many expectations in the year of the Snake
According to Feng Shui, the year of At Ty is an ideal year to expand production and business activities and welcome positive changes. Wisdom in strategic thinking and flexibility in action will help businesses go further in an increasingly competitive business environment.
Going through 2024 with many ups and downs, from slow economic growth, prolonged geopolitical instability to inflation after the pandemic, Vietnam's economy still maintains stability and impressive growth recovery. According to the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the economic growth rate for the whole year of 2024 is estimated at 6.8-7%.
The survey results of Vietnam Report with the VNR500 community also recorded a significant improvement in the rate of enterprises with growth in revenue, profit and number of orders. In particular, the rate of enterprises with significant increases in revenue and profit accounted for 7.7% and 10.5% respectively, much higher than the level of less than 5% of the previous year. Most enterprises have high expectations for a promising economic outlook in 2025, along with an important milestone when the whole country enters a new era - the era of national development.
