The historic flood that occurred in July caused the only suspension bridge to Huoi Sang school - Chieng Noi Primary School (Mai Son district, Son La ) to be swept away by the flood. Parents, staff and teachers had to carry students across the raging stream to school.

Faced with that situation, the school and local authorities mobilized forces to build a temporary bridge so that students and teachers could go to school with peace of mind.

On the morning of August 31, speaking with VietNamNet, Mr. Bui Xuan Thanh - Vice Principal of Chieng Noi Primary School (directly in charge of Huoi Sang school) said: "The temporary bridge was built and completed on August 29 to serve people crossing, especially students and teachers when the new school year is coming."

Huoi Sang school has 10 teachers and 230 students who are Thai and Kho Mu ethnic groups, mostly boarding students. Crossing Ket stream is the only way for teachers and students to get to school.

Mr. Mua A Song, Secretary of the Chieng Noi Commune Party Committee, said that the locality has mobilized 4 villages, along with the school and parents, to build a temporary bridge. This is only a temporary solution. In the long term, the locality has proposed to higher authorities to approve the construction of a new bridge.

"Chieng Noi is a poor and disadvantaged commune, 100% of the people are ethnic minorities. The commune suffered heavy damage due to recent floods," said Mr. Song.

Hundreds of teachers take time off to help Ky Son people overcome flash floods. The terrible flash floods that occurred in Ta Ca commune and Muong Xen town (Ky Son district, Nghe An ) caused hundreds of houses to be damaged, collapsed and completely lost.
