"The contract is 100 pages so I didn't read it carefully"
Accordingly, Ngoc Lan said she had purchased insurance 3 years ago, including 1 insurance contract for her and 1 insurance contract for her son. Each year, the actress pays more than 700 million VND for both insurance policies with the hope that after 10 years, she will receive the principal amount of nearly 7 billion VND according to the consultant.
However, she recently learned that her contract is for 74 years and her son's is for 42 years. In addition, because the contract also includes many other insurances, the amount she can receive will be much less than expected. That's why the actress of the movie Gate of the Sun is extremely panicked.

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, Ngoc Lan said: "After the livestream, I read the comments, some people said that the 74-year contract means paying for 74 years, some people said that I would be insured for 74 years, I'm not sure because I really don't know. However, at first I just wanted to pay and withdraw money after 10 years. The consultant also said that during the participation period, if I die, my children will receive more than 15 billion VND. Those are the things I care about and have no other needs, so now seeing the number 74 years, I'm very surprised."
Not only that, Ngoc Lan also said that when she bought this insurance, she did not know that it included a health insurance part.
"Health insurance will be lost every year. So even if I pay in full, I will not get the entire principal back. This health insurance part even accounts for nearly half of the total amount I paid. The thing is, I bought health insurance from another party, so if I knew that the insurance I bought had this part, I would have deducted it," Ngoc Lan explained.

The actress also said that she livestreamed only to warn people to be careful and research carefully before buying insurance, not to ask anyone to help or support her in getting her money back. Because the actress understood that in this matter, she herself was also at fault for not reading the contract carefully before signing.
"The insurance contract was over 100 pages long, so I didn't read it carefully. Partly because I trusted the consultant, I ended up signing a contract that didn't meet my needs. So the fault lies partly with me. Right now, I'm just trying to find a way to minimize my losses, not asking for money back or any benefits," Ngoc Lan affirmed.
Risks of buying insurance without reading the contract carefully
Speaking with Dan Tri , lawyer Tran Xuan Tien, Head of Dong Doi Law Office, Hanoi Bar Association, said that in reality, the situation of people buying insurance but not reading the contract carefully often happens.
When buying insurance, consultants often promise "winged" incentives that appeal to customers' psychology. In addition, the content of insurance contracts is often very long, even up to hundreds of pages, making buyers impatient to read.
"After a while, many people realized that the contract also listed additional terms, supplementary products, and other additional costs... that they had never heard of before," said Mr. Tran Xuan Tien.
Lawyers analyze some of the reasons that lead to insurance contract disputes. One is that consultants do not fully and accurately explain the terms, while customers trust them completely and do not read the contract carefully.
Second, some consultants, in their desire to quickly sign a contract, "exaggerate" the benefits of their clients, leading to unfortunate consequences when an unfortunate event occurs.
"Customers should ask questions about their rights before signing the contract, and pay attention to the exclusions of insurance liability, because not every insurance purchase will guarantee compensation in all cases," said the lawyer.
According to Mr. Tran Xuan Tien, customers also need to pay attention to the payment deadline. In fact, even though the contract has been signed, the insurance liability only arises when the buyer has paid the full fee, otherwise the contract will be invalid.
In addition, when reading the insurance contract, the buyer needs to consider other costs such as: contract costs, arising costs, deductibles... to grasp the rights and obligations of themselves, as well as of the seller to avoid unnecessary disputes.
From the case of actress Ngoc Lan, lawyer Tran Xuan Tien recommends that before signing an insurance contract, people should read and understand the contract clearly, especially the terms related to rights, benefits and payment terms of insurance premiums.
"If you are not knowledgeable in this field, buyers should seek advice and assistance from experts or insurance lawyers to avoid any possible damage," said lawyer Tien.
