Actors find it difficult to break out if they don't step out of their comfort zone.

Vietnamese screen It is not uncommon for stars to “make it big” thanks to a role. The public once knew Kaity Nguyen for her role as Linh Dan in “Em chua 18” - the film that helped her become a hundred-billion-dollar actress, creating a launching pad for her. Or Ninh Duong Lan Ngoc was once loved and remembered by the audience for her role as Nuong in “Canh dong bat tan”. However, with the current film market that is easy to eliminate and requires creativity, being limited to a role on screen is sometimes a “double-edged sword”.

Recently, the movie “The Most Beautiful Summer” was released to the public. This is a project about school age and youth that was expected to become a “dark horse” at the box office in the summer, especially after the success of “Flip Side 7”. However, the movie left theaters with only a few billion VND in revenue. This failure created a big shock for the filmmakers even though this was a project that was considered to be well-made and methodical. Many film experts pointed out that the main reason came from the fact that many stars in the movie repeated their previous roles such as Tran Nghia and Khanh Van.

Previously, actors Tran Nghia and Khanh Van co-starred in the film “Mat Biec” (2019) directed by Victor Vu, which earned 180 billion VND. Both of them later became stars. However, up to now, they have not escaped the shadow of these roles.

Tran Nghia in “The Most Beautiful Summer” repeated the role of Ngan in “Mat Biec”. He even played this type of role in the TV series “Nha tro Balanha”. Khanh Van also faced a similar situation when she could not create a new feeling for the audience in the following types of roles.

The case of Tuan Tran is similar. He is famous for his role as Quan in the movie “Bo gia” (2021) by Tran Thanh. After that, this mischievous, clever role was also repeated in “Dat rung phuong Nam” (2023). Until the movie “Mong cua” (2024) was released, Tuan Tran’s acting style was also repeated, not much new.

Can't wait for luck from a role

With the current flow of Vietnamese cinema, competition is always fierce and elimination is high, so it requires actors to know how to change themselves.

The case of actress Ta Lam is an example. She played a small supporting role in Ly Hai’s film “Lat mat 6”. In this project, she played the role of a sour Western wife with many lines that made the audience laugh.

From this role, Xie Lin received more attention than other young actors. That is the reason why Ly Hai continued to trust her and invite her to play in "Flip Side 7: A Wish". In this film, Xie Lin continued to appear, but her role did not overlap with the previous project. In "Flip Side 7", Xie Lin became a kind neighbor who was always there to help the female lead. Her natural acting and non-repetitive role helped Xie Lin once again score points in the public's eyes.

Or actress Kaity Nguyen is also one of the cases that still retains its appeal to the audience even though “Em chua 18” has been aired for 7 years. At that time, Kaity Nguyen was just a young, inexperienced actress. But thanks to her natural acting in the film, she suddenly became a star.

However, thanks to careful calculation in roles and choosing suitable scripts, up to now, Kaity Nguyen still maintains her position. She is considered a hundred billion star of Vietnamese cinema with films reaching hundred billion revenue such as: "Em chua 18", "Tiec trang mau", "Nguoi vo cuoi cuoi"...

Kaity Nguyen has a journey of "transformation" from an innocent role to roles with heavy psychology and emotional depth such as the roles in "Gai gia lam chieu V", "Co gai tu qua qua"... to "Nguoi vo cuoi cuoi".

To go far in the acting profession, script selection is very important for actors. Young actors. Maybe, even if they don't play the main role, if the supporting role is suitable, the actor can still shine. And above all, it is impossible to be stuck with a certain type of role, because the audience always demands that actors be creative and change, not be one-dimensional and repeat themselves.
