Broken arm while filming
- How did you feel playing the role of a marine for the first time in "War Without Borders"?
It was my luck to play the role of a marine in War Without Borders . I feel proud to wear the uniform of the soldiers protecting the fatherland and honored to bring the image of the soldiers closer to everyone.
Hoang Trieu Duong plays the character Hoang in the movie.
- How is the character Hoang similar and different from Trieu Duong in real life?
In The War Without Borders , Hoang is a cheerful character, always getting along with his teammates in the squad, and is the one who stands in the middle to reconcile the characters Hieu (Tran Kien) and Thai (Viet Hoang).
The character Hoang in the movie is very similar to me in that he is cheerful and sociable with everyone. Otherwise, I think I am not as weak as Hoang.
- What memory while filming this role makes Trieu Duong remember the most?
The film War Without Borders has many training and fighting scenes with special forces soldiers. Therefore, we actors had to spend 2-3 weeks training with them. After that, we could get in sync with the soldiers' physical strength to perform the scenes in the film well.
I remember during the filming of the 170th Brigade, there was a scene where we were doing a training exercise with our brothers. Due to the bad weather that day, while doing physical exercises, I fell and broke 2 bones in my arm.
At that time, I was cared for and supported in every possible way by the entire film crew, the leaders, and the soldiers here. Fortunately, I recovered well and was able to complete the film with the whole crew.
During filming, Trieu Duong broke his arm.
- Many people praise Trieu Duong for conveying the sincerity and simplicity of the soldier well. Where did you get the experience and information to play the role so "sweetly"?
Receiving compliments and encouragement from everyone is a great motivation for young actors like us. From the trust of the audience, we have the motivation to try to improve ourselves for future roles.
With the role of soldier Hoang, I was lucky to get a role close to my age so it was easier to convey everything to the audience. During the days of filming with the soldiers, we lived, slept, and talked with everyone so we had more experiences like real soldiers, from there we played the role better.
- "War Without Borders" has many excellent actors. What did you learn from working with more experienced artists and peers?
It is true that War Without Borders gathers many famous actors. Looking at the way they work, I learned a lot of lessons and experiences. I saw how seriously they practiced before each scene and how professional they were when they started working. With the young actors, we easily communicated with each other to have the most compatible scenes.
Feeling like dad is always there
Trieu Duong always remembers the career advice of his father, People's Artist Hoang Dung.
- Trieu Duong is both a young actor and the son of a famous People's Artist. Do you feel pressured when acting in VTV prime time dramas?
People know me not only as a young actor but also as the son of Dung's father. But I really don't feel pressured and feel comfortable when playing my role.
I see myself as having many advantages. I get to interact regularly with seniors in the profession, share more about the profession, and receive a lot of attention and support from everyone. I am very happy to receive that affection from everyone.
Being accepted for a role in a VTV primetime drama is a blessing and an honor for every new actor like me. I also think that being accepted to participate in a drama when I haven’t shown much is also a favor that everyone gives me.
Trieu Duong is not pressured because he is the son of People's Artist Hoang Dung.
- It's been more than 2 years since you've been away from your dad. What do you do when you miss him?
More than 2 years away from my dad, but sometimes when I mention him, my eyes sting. Maybe sometimes it's because I miss him so much, sometimes it's also because I feel like he's always there, he just can't talk to me.
“When you act, you have to love it, and if you don’t do well or give your all at what you love, it’s a waste.” That is my father’s teaching that I still take as a guiding principle to try and make efforts in my career.
- People's Artist Hoang Dung is considered a monument of Vietnamese television dramas. Although you are not pressured by your father's reputation, do you wish to become a "small monument" in the hearts of your fans?
When my father was already a monument in everyone's heart, I thought I didn't need to try to surpass him. In my mind, a monument or a small actor is still the most important impression in the audience's heart.
Trieu Duong once played a handsome commune policeman in the movie "Street in the Village".
- Trieu Duong has played the role of a police officer or navy soldier a few times. Do you plan to continue playing such roles?
Of course, I will not nail myself to roles like police or soldiers because I am a young actor so I do not have many opportunities to express myself. But in the near future, when there are new opportunities and roles, I will try my best to bring a different image to the audience.
