Appearance of Ho Chi Minh City's first metro line before its operation date

(Dan Tri) - After 12 years of construction, metro line No. 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) will officially be put into operation tomorrow (December 22). This will be a breath of fresh air for the appearance of traffic and urban areas in Ho Chi Minh City.

After 12 years of construction, Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) has been completed and in just a few days, the public transport project that has lasted more than a decade in Ho Chi Minh City will be put into commercial operation. This is the desire of the city's residents for a modern form of public transport. Metro Line 1 is 19.7km long, including 2.6km underground and 17.1km above ground. The total investment after adjustment is 43,700 billion VND. The project has a route through District 1, Binh Thanh, Thu Duc City (Ho Chi Minh City) and Di An (Binh Duong).

As one of the most important items and considered the "heart" of metro line 1, Long Binh Depot (Long Binh ward, Thu Duc city) is the control center for operation, cleaning, maintenance and repair of trains of the entire metro line.

Currently, the entire metro line No. 1 has 17 trains, each consisting of 3 cars with a length of 61.5m. The train can carry a maximum of 930 passengers including 147 seated passengers and 783 standing passengers.

The control room is considered the connection point between different points, lines and departments in the general operation chain of the entire metro line No. 1. Each shift at the control room has 6 employees (total of 24 employees).

Large screens are arranged to update and monitor operational information. The rows of machines have 1 to 2 personnel in charge of departments such as: commercial dispatch, passenger, traffic (responsible for the entire route), depot dispatch (responsible for cleaning the train, maintenance, support in case of problems) and monitoring equipment.

Not far from the dispatch room is the train maintenance area at Long Binh depot. After finishing their journey, trains will be brought to this area for maintenance.

As one of the first elevated stations of Metro Line 1 (from Thu Duc City to the city center), Suoi Tien Bus Station is located right in front of the new Mien Dong Bus Station. It is expected that after Metro Line 1 is put into operation, the situation of sluggishness and lack of customers at this most modern bus station in Vietnam will be resolved.

The total length of the railway of metro line No. 1 is 19.7km, running from Ben Thanh underground station to Long Binh depot with many winding sections above, parallel to Hanoi Highway.

Each underground station has its own unique architectural style and highlight. At Ben Thanh underground station, a giant skylight is considered an architectural highlight symbolizing Ben Thanh station in particular and metro line 1 in general.

Train fares for passengers are listed with the lowest price per trip being 7,000 VND and the highest being 20,000 VND (for passengers paying in cash). For passengers buying one-way tickets without using cash, the lowest price is 6,000 VND and the highest is 19,000 VND. For passengers buying a daily ticket, it is 40,000 VND, with no limit on the number of trips per day; a 3-day ticket is 90,000 VND, with no limit on the number of trips in 3 days. Regular passengers buying a monthly ticket are 300,000 VND, with no limit on the number of trips per month. The monthly ticket price for students is 150,000 VND. The above ticket prices include passenger insurance.

Once completed and put into operation, metro line 1 is expected to change the traffic landscape of Ho Chi Minh City in the future. At the same time, it will reduce traffic congestion in Ho Chi Minh City.
In the first 6 months, the following will be implemented: Route opening time: 5am; Route closing time: 10pm; Train running interval: 8-12 minutes/trip. The first day of opening the route will start at 10am. After 6 months, route opening time: 5am; Route closing time: 11:30pm; Train running interval: 5-10-15 minutes/trip (corresponding to the time frames: peak/normal/off-peak). Regarding ticket prices: Single ticket (trip ticket): Going to one station is 7,000 VND and going on the whole route is 20,000 VND/trip. Daily ticket: 40,000 VND, valid for one day and unlimited number of trips. 3-day ticket: 90,000 VND, valid for three days and unlimited number of trips. Monthly ticket (general, priority): General: 300,000 VND/month; Priority for students is 150,000 VND/month. Implement the free ticket policy for priority subjects according to Resolution 29/2024/NQ-HDND dated December 11, 2024 of the People's Council of Ho Chi Minh City (free for children under 6 years old, meritorious people, seniors over 60 years old, people with disabilities). Passengers using personal vehicles can park at parking lots near stations of metro line 1 (Van Thanh Park, Thao Dien, Rach Chiec, Phuoc Long, Binh Thai, Suoi Tien Bus Station, ...); passengers traveling on metro line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) can use the pedestrian bridges at stations: Tan Cang, Thao Dien, An Phu, Rach Chiec, Phuoc Long, Binh Thai, Thu Duc, High-Tech Park and National University to safely and conveniently access utility works along Vo Nguyen Giap Street, Hanoi Highway.
